Cotton balls just don't cut it for me. I have left over mascara no matter what remover I use.
These type of pads work beautifully

No tips, except that the one thing I have found to remove waterproof mascara is the wonderful Liz Earle cleanse and polish hot cloth cleanser, which I was given a couple of years ago as a present. It's rather expensive though!

Louise great tip about the blinc mascara, which I remember you talking about before. I've just ordered a trial size!

This is why I love blinc mascara, waterproof but comes off with hot water and a washcloth x

That's why I've never converted to waterproof mascara -- it won't come off with regular cleanser and I just can't abide the process of getting it off with makeup remover! I'd rather use regular mascara and deal with the occasional smudge.

I use a generous amount on a cotton ball. Don't rub too hard, be gentle. But take your time and use a few fresh cotton balls and more remover if necessary until everything comes off.

So the recent thread about mascara recommendations got me thinking about why I don't wear mascara all that often, even though I love the look... I realized it's because I find removing it such a pain in the butt! I use only waterproof mascara and only on my upper lashes (I pretty much have no lower lashes anyway). Currently I am using Maybelline Great lash, which is good and doesn't smudge onto my face; however, I can NEVER get it all off at night and always still have some on my eyelashes the next day. I don't wear other makeup so I don't know much about makeup removers. I also have pretty sensitive skin and eyes, so I'd prefer something gentle if possible.

So, all you mascara wearers out there, what is your secret to removing it?
