Suntiger rings are a good alternative to bracelets in the winter! (I am wearing three today )

Oh also -- JenniNZ yeah I am with you: I think we both follow a bit of a "buy and hold" strategy. It can be difficult to know when I'm temporarily "off" something vs when I'm done with it...but I don't feel too much need to edit things out quickly. My black tall boots have a square-ish toe and I think they're pretty timeless!

Lisa so glad my new coat is getting the YLF seal of approval!

Good insight re: cowls! I never thought about them that much but now I will when looking at tops.
Bracelets I just wear in summer for the most part, and choose rings instead for winter.

The new coat is perfect for an Urban Snow Queen! Perfect length, perfect color, perfect texture. Bravo!

And yes I think the polar bear tee and outfit #11 from the inspiration photos are aligned. Nice to see the inspiration photos in action.

I love long over lean also Sarah. I have kept some of it in my wardrobe for a decade, just adding extra other silhouettes in so I don’t get bored or too stuck in my ways. I also don’t want to end up getting rid of some of the favourite tunics just before fashion takes a turn and brings long over lean back again!
When I first joined YLF in 2017 I had edited out some square toed shoes and boots, and blow me down it wasn’t many years until they were back in again! I wasn’t too upset as I was tired of those particular pairs but a good lesson.

Thanks RobinF! I really like the tonal aqua and teal too, I'm going to look for more ways to achieve that combination...

Angie, yes! Long over lean is a reliable formula for me. Suits my body type and my climate/practical needs. For a long time it was kind of the only silhouette that my closet supported, and that started to get tiresome (especially as I was conscious of everyone else moving on to other looks...and I didn't seem to be able to). I'm coming around to the idea that I'll probably never entirely stop wearing the look...but I do want to keep experimenting with other silhouettes right now, as opposed to leaning in to that formula exclusively. Queen Long Over Lean is visiting other realms to see how they do things there! :-)

Star thanks for the vote of confidence on that tonal grey/pastel look!

I like the new Urban Snow Queen Topper best! Smashing, SarahD8! :)

And the dainty layered pearl necklaces are very pretty! Fab inspiration pics all round.

I hereby also crown you Queen Long over Lean. Love #7! Grey and cognac is gorgeous together and suits you to a tee. KILLER riding boots!

For the bangle: cuff your sweater once or twice to shorten the sleeves to bracelet length. Wear the bangle on your skin. Fuss-factor solved.

Great looks! You have a bit of a signature look and it really works! I think my favorite is the second look - love the tonal colors. Those are really nice looking jeans, too bad you aren't thrilled with the quality.

I avoid bracelets overall, they get in my way at work so the only time I really think to wear them is when I am getting dressed up for something. I do wear a watch every day and it does tend to rest under my sleeve.

Love the new coat!

JenniNZ, Jamie, Lisa -- ha, I'm glad I'm not alone re: the bracelet thing! Lisa and Cookie, some good suggestions to try here, thanks.

Lisa and Cookie, thanks also for pointing out some of the inspo images that struck you. I admit I was just going on vibes and had not got as far as actually recreating outfits, but that would be a fun next step! I do wonder if that raw hem jeans + polar bear tee + light fair isle cardi ensemble I posted a while back is, proportion wise, a version of #11.

Lisa coat was hidden in a reply to my previous thread. Here's my super quick try on pic again for convenience:

Oh gosh I really like all of these! The yummy textures and colors! I think the aqua/teal is my favorite. And the jewelry is absolutely beautiful. Re bracelets, well, that is why “bracelet length” sleeves are a thing, eh? Or sleeves you can push up and have them stay that way. Or loose dangly bracelets that might shake loose of the sleeve, rather than a cuff. That bracelet deserves to be seen!

In this collection, you have the formula down for tunic length sweater over a slim bottom. It's a great combination on you, milk it!

Such a shame about the teal skinnies, because they are a lovely color.

The cowlneck in #5 is draped really nicely. I always struggled to get cowlnecks to stay draped the way I prefer and eventually eliminated them from my wardrobe. Now when I want neck coverage I reach for a scarf or a mockneck sweater.

Too bad the lavender jeans are too big, that would be a great color with this palette. It looks like you have teal and lavender skinnies to add to your shopping list. :)

I avoid bracelets in the winter when I'm wearing sweaters. I prefer the look and fit of bare skin with a bracelet instead of layering over fabrics. I find the best winter accessories to pair with sweaters are long pendant necklaces and scarves.

The copper cuff is a lovely piece, maybe it would work paired with a slim fit sweater (something that fits snug on the lower arm and wrist area?)

Did I miss the new light colored coat?

There's some fun layering in the inspiration photos. Especially the varied layered lengths in 10, 11 and 14. Very interesting juxtaposition in these. I look forward to seeing you recreate these looks!

I like your explanation of the stiff cowl necks. I looked at the pictures first and was thinking how they are signature for you and your explanation supports why this makes perfect sense. I have not done this but have seen many on-line types wearing their bracelets over their long sleeves - I have no idea how they avoid the scrunching effect! Very thoughtful analysis and I enjoyed your inspo pics too!

Urban Snow Queen explores variations on a theme (& shares a big tranche of inspo images)

Day 9

Teal velvet skinny jeans, plum cowl neck tunic

Outdoor version: black snow boots, black parka, teal everyday bag

New piece(s): teal velvet skinny jeans

Assessment of new item(s) – fit, etc.:

These are true skinnies, and not really my current preference (as mentioned I am really liking relaxed skinnies right now). The quality here is also not the greatest – the seams twist, especially on the left leg. I do love the very dark bottle-green color, though.

Is the outfit elevated/cohesive/refined? No. It could have been, if I had bothered to accessorize.

Where is the contrast? Heck if I know. I’m not really sure what I was thinking here – maybe I was still recovering from the flu and just not back to my full fashion strength.

How else could I wear the new item(s)? See tomorrow’s outfit.

Day 10

Teal velvet skinny jeans, aqua cowl neck pullover

Outdoor version: white stompy boots, black parka, teal everyday bag

New piece(s): aqua cowl neck pullover

Assessment of new item(s) – fit, etc.:

Ok, this is a good place to share my theory about cowl necks. I think that a dramatic and “starchy” (for lack of a better word) cowl, as with my plum and gray tunics, kind of mimics a ruff: perfect for those Snow Queen vibes. When I arrange this sweater’s neckline in a similar way, I really like it – but, it has less inherent structure, and tends to “slump” into an arrangement/orientation that I prefer less. I might try stitching the collar into place to see if I can get it to maintain the desired shape a bit better. Otherwise, good fit here. I like the color although I do have to guard against combinations that feel too “sweet” to me.

Is the outfit elevated/cohesive/refined? The idea here was to try a tonal look with teal and aqua. I think the color scheme is successful in providing cohesiveness, although the proportions of these two pieces are not ideal, which diminishes the elevated/refined quotient.

Where is the contrast? Value contrast, especially in the outdoor version of the outfit with punchy white boots. (I’m realizing though that these days I mostly prefer to wear ankle boots under straight- or wide-leg pants rather than over skinnies.)

How else could I wear the new item(s)? Confirmed: I prefer a longer top/sweater with these narrow and relatively unstructured pants.

Day 11

Lavender velvet skinny jeans, gray oversized cowl tunic

Outdoor version: cognac riding boots, pink puffer vest, teal everyday bag

New piece(s): lavender velvet skinny jeans

Assessment of new item(s) – fit, etc.:

I love the color. But these are just too big – removing them from my active wardrobe

Is the outfit elevated/cohesive/refined? Yes! This is one of my favorite outfits so far. I considered going with my plum tunic here for another tonal look. But, as it turns out the pants have enough gray in them that I think the outfit reads as tonal anyway. The vest over top was also a risk – I was worried that pink vest and lavender pants would be too easter-eggy. But again, the colors are similar enough, and grayed enough, that I think it really works.

Where is the contrast? Silhouette is doing most of the work here: big swingy sweater over narrow pants. The shorter vest adds to the silhouette contrast in the outdoor version of the look.

I wish I owned: A light-colored coat to create similar looks when a vest isn’t enough/right for the weather. Spoiler: now I do!

Also picking up on a previous suggestion to try accessorizing with a bracelet here. I love the *idea* of this, and especially how this vintage Native/Southwestern copper cuff takes on Viking vibes in this unexpected context. But. If I just put the bracelet on my wrist it’s hidden by my sweater sleeve. If I put it on the outside of my sweater sleeve it creates this weird bunching, AND as soon as I start moving my arms around like a normal person it comes loose and winds up hidden by my sleeve again. So, I don’t get it. How do people wear bracelets in the winter/with long sleeves?
