I can wash them in cold water with delicate cycle with drying on low temperature ( short time only ). I hang them and do a bit of ironing - and so far very little shrinkage. The construction of pants will be more complicated ( pockets' lining could be just cotton ) and the fabric composition is most important like @Roberta mentioned above. Linen is a very, very sturdy fiber. Maybe try hand washing it first? Then you could try it on a gentle cycle with cool water.
