Mine is a top loader btw, which seems to fit more than a front loader

Brenda - I hear you!! I do at least 14 loads of washing a week myself (a fair bit of it bedlinen).

I have an Euro sized washer and dryer unit in my apartment I don't think it really has anything to do with how big my wardrobe is - I run about one load a week.

Hmmm. I am American but have a small Slovenian washer sold as a Danby in the U.S. & Canada but as a Gorenje in Slovenia. It is Euro sized. When I had the typical American size washer, I would do smaller loads with lower water levels. I mean, there is only so much white underwear my husband can have! I prefer to do laundry more often because psychologically, I don't like to have lots of items unavailable to me to wear.

We also have an 18" dishwasher instead of the typical 24". Sadly, no break in price. It is an excellent choice for our small family. When we had the regular sized DW, it wouldn't get run every day so we would end up hand washing serving dishes, favorite mugs, and the like.

Finally, our refrigerator is about 18.5 cubic feet which is extremely small by American standards. My husband is the cook, and he typically shops every day or two versus once or twice a week like many families. I know he will never change. Food would get lost and go bad when we had a larger fridge. This size is perfect, and we could probably get by with smaller.

We are highly unusual by American standards, especially since we live in a house and not a condo/apartment. Our house is two bedrooms, so these appliances are relatively in scale.

That seems fairly big to me....I'm not sure but I thought even a large front loading machine was up to 18lbs?

ETA - we have a large front loading washing machine, and my wardrobe is fairly small. The kids have smallish wardrobes too. DH is average...it's harder to get him to get rid of old stuff.

With 5 boys, the size of my washing machine has zero to do with the size of my wardrobe. LOL I do lots of laundry no matter what.

I was having morning tea yesterday with a group of ladies and one of them said that washing machines were really big in the US (she was quoting an american mutual acquataince who is looking forward to returning to a big washing maching) and so you could get by with less frequent washing.

My newish washing machine is 7.5kg (16.5lb) and this is big by australian standards.
How about yours?

If the trend is larger, does it influence you to have larger wardrobes?
