I have realized my house is completely overstuffed right now and I need to purge and stop buying stuff (even if it is vintage, sustainable, etc... I just have no room!). This is a larger issue than slippers. So for now I am making do, wearing my warm socks plus plastic Birkenstock Evas for indoor chores, and my cozy moccs when I'm just sitting around. However the input was very helpful for future, eg. that I probably want a full shoe or boot style rather than slip on. I also enjoy learning about smaller American "legacy" type&nbsp; brands even if I can't reasonably ship them here. With globalization it's so easy to only know about the big international brands or new online-oriented brands like Allbirds (I think that's their deal?) so I like checking out other new to me brands. I have two pairs of winter slippers.</p> <p>One is for mornings, that I can step into barefoot, and those are Minnetonka scuffs. They are half the price of Uggs but have that same shearling lining that never gets damp or sweaty.</p> <p>The other is for during the day, for warmth and support, and those are Haflinger scuffs. They get stinky if you wear them without socks, so they are decidedly for once you're dressed. The Betterfelt ones are cheaper and I also get another small discount through work, which is what brought them to my attention. I am regular customer of Get Outside shoes, they seem to get the new styles of my favourite brands in stock very early and kindly send me emails to let me know ;)<br />The Allbirds are available here but pricey, but they do look like a good hybrid of slipper and shoe. UGGs are not for me - I was turned off by how ubiquitous they were here for many years, but worn as outdoor boots which invariably got covered in salt stains. I do the shoe style which feels warmer and more supportive than the backless but not quite as much slipper as the bootie style. I often can’t do wool but have no problem with the slippers. Glerups have a choice of two different bottoms. I choose leather because I don’t need these slippers to go outside but they also make them with rubber bottoms. I’m on my second pair. I live in Canada; we have wood floors and keep the house relatively cool in winter. I typically need both warm socks and some kind of footwear. I have indigenous made suede moccasins that are cozy and have held up well over several years, but the bottoms are getting slippery and thus aren't ideal for housework and cooking, nor are they supportive. I have Sloggers garden clogs which are amazingly comfortable and supportive such that I am tempted to get indoor ones for the kitchen, but they aren't cozy.</p> <p>When Birkenstocks came out with slippers this year I was very excited that I could have cozy warmth, support *and* kitchen safety, but they were too tight across the instep. They are sheepskin lined but did not feel very warm either with or without socks. I returned them.</p> <p>I am now looking at new to me brand, Betterfelt, that is made of wool and has the option of rubber soles. I am generally ok with wool but I wouldn't say 100% so as I have merino blend turtlenecks that get a bit irritating on the neck if I am out and about and get overheated.</p> <p>I feel like slippers should be way easier than this!
