Mary K, all the outfits look great. Trousers/Jeans with a top and scarf is my go-to outfit when I'm in a rush. All the scarves are splendid and I really like outfit no.10, black and white against deep yellow. Also loving the animal print dress in Photo no.13. You are good to go

I also bring two totes on the plane and stuff my purse in one of them, so that I am really carrying three pieces on and not the two that they allow. Frequently this means I don't even have to check luggage if I've packed well. At the very least, I have plenty of clothes with me in case the airline loses it for awhile. I don't care if that happens on the way home.
Also, remember to cross pack with a traveling companion so if one piece gets lost, you both still have clothes to wear until it is recovered.

oh, another trick of mine. I stuff a lesportsac duffel bag in my luggage, so I can bring goodies back! I can stuff the bag into the pouch you see there or put it in that useless luggage front pocket.
I have 2 of these, one for little Zap, one for me.

I think you will find yourself wearing that skirt a lot in Vietnam and Cambodia because of the heat. You may want to consider one more, or a pair of walking shorts.

I think you are ready to go! You have the right amount if everything. I always wear my bulkiest shoes on the plane so ditto on that. The items look lightweight, I think you will be fine weight and space wise, especially with a bigger luggage.

I am constantly amazed when I see other do this. Your capsule shows me in a clear simple way how to achieve several version of the same outfit. Thank you!

Aw, it's so hard to judge fabrics from pictures. Black linen trousers are the perfect option. And light-weight long sleeve T's will give you the option to bare arms--or not, if the mosquitoes are present. So it looks like you are ready to take off with the perfect travel capsule.

But I'm retaining the right to be envious of your trip as I stare out at the snow on the ground. Snow by the middle of October does NOT bode well for the rest of the winter!

Gaylene, we were posting at the same time! I am happy this (mostly) meets with your approval!

I did a road test of the outfit in photo 9 at the L.A. County fair a few weeks ago when the temps were well over 100 degrees, and I was quite comfortable. And the longsleeved tees are VERY lightweight so I think I will be fine. Again, we've been told to cover up for modesty and mosquitos.

The black pants are the same lightweight linen blend as the lighter colored ones so I don't think they'll feel much warmer -- also I am worried about dirt so I think darker pants are good for that reason. I have lived in warm climates all my life and don't suffer as much in the heat as many other people do, so I think I'll be okay. I have done fine in similar outfits on hot and humid vacations in Mexico and NYC.

Two of the scarves, in particular, are very lightweight and non-bulky so I think I will be fine. I will also bring a pendant or two in case I decide a scarf is too hot.

Jaw-droppingly AWESOME, Mary K. This is going to work brilliantly for you. And I notice you took my advice re: LOTS of footwear options (all comfy); "OUR" magic scarf; and "our" Breton T.

Hint: You can wear our scarf with the Breton T, too.

Thanks, ladies! I tried putting everything in the last two photos in the suitcase, and it fit with a ton of room to spare. I am taking my big suitcase plus a very small carry-on. We won't be doing a ton of schlepping of luggage, but when we get to Japan we will have to wrangle our bags on the bullet train, so that is motivation enough to keep it as simple and light as possible! One thing I have going for me is that my big suitcase is a "spinner," which is really easy to handle.

I am really happy how the warm-weather tops will be able to layer under the shirts and long-sleeved tops in the cold-weather capsule! I think things are coming together really well!!

I've always used the "uniform" approach to traveling just because it made it easier to figure out what shoes to take. And, since I like having a clean top every day, packing a pile of rolled up, light-weight T's is SO much easier than fiddling around with shirts which have to be folded.

I did have a couple of thoughts on your hot weather capsule: Will you wear scarves if the weather is hot and humid? Will black pants be as comfortable in hot weather as your lighter-colored linen ones? Would a couple of loose-fitting, tissue-weight short, or 3/4, sleeve T's come in handy as an alternative to the long sleeved ones if the weather is hot?

I love your riverboat evening dresses, especially that last one. It looks fabulous on you.You are going to have so much fun on this trip!

Wow, you made a lot of great outfits there! I ove looking at capsule wardrobes. What size suitcase are you taking? Are you able to fit that all in a carry on or are you going to check in luggage? I am adamant now about only taking carry on, so I love to see what others pack. I've never gone more than 7-10 days though.

You may recall last week I started thinking about my travel wardrobe for an upcoming three-week trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Japan. I am not used to traveling light, but I am determined to fit everything into one bag this trip, even though I will need clothes for one week in cold weather and one week in hot weather.

I am still pretty happy with the cold-weather capsule I put together in the last post (photo 1) , although I may remove one of the four pair of pants and change out of top or two. I had an absolute revelation about the warm weather capsule after getting such wise input from you ladies, though, and here is the result.

I found these fantastic cotton long-sleeved tees at Target, and got one in every color. They are perfect for my goal of being covered up (for modesty and against mosquitos) yet cool (they're nicely soft and lightweight), they won't take up much room in the suitcase, they're washable, and they can be layered under the cool-weather items in the cooler climates. I figure I will just make them a "uniform" along with the linen-blend trousers I purchased a while ago, and a great LL Bean cotton skirt I found at the consignment store today.

I snapped some pics and I'm happy with the basic look (sorry about the lack of focus -- still getting used to my new camera! also, I know the pants need hemming). What say you? Better? (The last three looks are for evenings aboard the river boat rather than for sightseeing, BTW.)

ETA: Tweaked the cold-weather capsule. Last photo shows the latest version. I'll wear the boots and the bulkiest sweater on the plane. Warm weather capsule is repeated next to it for the sake of completeness so I can see them together.
