I feel like I need arch support when I'm standing for a long time - cooking comes to mind indoors. I tend to wear shoes quite often in the house as a result, but my slippers are from LLBean & are the ones with a real sole - like you could wear outdoors. I believe they were called "Wicked Good" but I don't see them any longer on the website. I probably have been wearing them for over 10 years.

I've also worn those Merrell's fleece-lined clogs in the past, but they are not nearly as high quality as they were in the past. And the fleece is fake, so your feet just sweat & end up covered in black lint. They've just been a huge disappointment after earlier Merrell's...

Thanks for addressing that question, Suz, Diana and Carla! Being in my stocking feet all day doesn't bother me a bit, even with a bunch of standing or walking, so I confess I'm rather blissfully ignorant of needing arch support. You've helped me understand more though!

Janet, I too can not speak for minimalist. However, I MUST have arch support of some kind in all my footwear. My right arch is flattening and if I go barefoot, or in unsupportive footwear, PF occurs. (I am currently battling PF - too much walking on hard city surfaces this summer )

My indoor footwear of choice these days is a pair of Vans slip ones with a Superfeet insert.

Janet, I actually prefer to go barefoot when possible, so arch support is clearly not a priority for me. It just happens that my Haflinger slippers have it, and it does feel nice. I do have flat feet and a history of plantar fasciitis and if you ask my Dr I probably should wear arch support all the time, but I'm not giving up going barefoot, lol. If I'm going to be doing something like standing in the kitchen for long periods of time (although to be honest I try to avoid doing that, lol) I will sometimes slip on some of my old Naot sandals for the arch support.

To the OP: another solution to your problem might be to just wear dedicated indoor shoes as Suz describes, and add these shearling insoles to make them cozier.

http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop.....s&

Janet, I can't really answer for the original poster, obviously. I don't have particularly weak arches, either, and don't normally wear an orthotic or anything like that, but when you are standing on hard floors for a long period of time (as with cooking, etc.) a sole that absorbs shocks can be important (esp. when dealing with plantar fasciitis, as I have been). So my own requirement is more for that than for arch support, but I can imagine how it might be for someone else.

Also, if you work from home, it's really what you are wearing all day, not "just around the house" -- I mean it's what you are wearing all day at work, so to speak.

And then -- while the idea of an "indoor shoe" vs. a slipper would seem to answer that particular issue (I mean, why not, right? No one says it has to be a slipper, per se; it can just be a shoe you don't wear outside!) -- but then you lose the "cozy" and "warm" factor really fast because most shoes are not designed to be cozy or warm (whereas slippers are.)

I think in your climate I would probably wear slip on sneakers in the house or something. I bring my fleece slippers out at some point in November and wear until the end of April or so, at which point I switch to slip on sneakers for a while, and finally a sandal.

I'm a little confused about some of the requirements, but keep in mind I don't wear slippers... How much are you all wearing slippers to require arch support out of them? It seems to me that something that just gets worn around the house wouldn't need to be quite so supportive. At what point does this just become a requirement for really comfortable casual shoes? (I may be displaying a lot of ignorance of how badly people need arch support for even a little bit of wear, since I don't have particularly fussy feet, so if that's so, please let me know!)

It's really tough to find a COZY indoor slip on shoe that looks nice. I own slippers...and they are cozy...they have great arch support, and they are practical. But "look nice"? Ummm, no. The best I can say is they blend in when I am wearing dark bottoms and they are easy on - easy off.

So, on days when I just can't stand it, I will often wear my Munro Abbys, which are suede, extremely supportive, yet so soft that they literally feel like slippers with a heel. These were originally outdoor shoes but I rarely wore them outdoors and they have since become "indoor shoes."

I also have a pair of sparkly "sock" booties from Zara. These are not as cozy or supportive but are a lot of fun and not too bad.

The problem with indoor booties is they are not easy on - easy off.

I looked into a variety of mules this year and also slip on sneakers of various kinds, but in the end decided that the actual slipper clog was probably better for my needs.

I guess the issue is that loungewear is usually more casual...and it is difficult to make a "dressy" slipper.

I'm not sure I completely understand what you're looking for, but what about a bootie like this? I have them in black and they are incredibly comfortable and have a nice arch support. I was just looking them up considering getting the cognac instead because I buy black footwear, but don't wear it much. They're not warm like Uggs, though.

What do you mean by "nice looking"? Perhaps a regular fleece-lined bootie would work? It is hard to imagine a slip-on cozy slipper with a supportive arch/sole that isn't clog-like, but a bootie might be a good substitute.
Barking Dog shoes has a good round-up of comfortable supportive slippers, but they may look too much like, you know, slippers (see: https://www.barkingdogshoes.co.....s-2-2.html) I love FitFlop sandals, and I adore their slippers (but indeed they are very slipper-like).

I like Halfingers too! I have cat ones similar to the ones Lisa linked, and the arch support is good. I think the ones with the cork sole have even better arch support. They feel similar to a Birkenstock or Naot sandal with the cork sole that molds to your feet after a while.

Slip-on Think! soso's are my default house shoe; we don't wear outdoor shoes inside. In colder weather, I'm intrigued by the idea of something cosy. But 1) warm 2) nice-looking 3) arch-supporting slippers seems a tall order.

My loungewear style is dressier than my usual street style is, so clogs aren't particularly appealing.

Suggestions?
