Then we noticed as Joy said things got destroyed in the wash or went missing. So we were constantly buying more clothes. All the time. In final years we just bought stuff on clearance from Target, TJMaxx, and similar. I'd do the "soft" test. Did not spend a lot because the stuff just kept ... disappearing. </p> <p>I am not implying here that her stuff was stolen; she had toileting issues. For that reason, definitely don't buy clothes that can't be machine washed, boiled, bleached. Sure, if there's say a Burberry scarf she loves, take that, put a label in it, put it in the locked closet and only take it out when you are there and you are taking her out for the day.&nbsp;</p> <p>Also we frequently just asked if they'd turn her room temperature up. They were happy to oblige. Shoulder/back mobility may be a challenge. And of course buttons might be frustrating for her.</p> <p>I’m going to go against the grain here and say it may be worth it to splurge on a lovely soft scarf or a Chanel-style tweedy cardigan. This time of life can make older people feel so low, and luxuries can remind them they’re still people and they’re still loved. The tops were all kinds of designs, but we lined them with flannel for warmth. My mother likes a fleece blanket when her apartment gets cold. The comfort factor is so high that I wear mine as sleep wear, lounge wear and occasionally under a sweater to step out in. They launder well. May be worth a shot; I have dressed our family's seniors and understand about tight and loose necks. Not easy. </p> <p>Also, if her neck is always cold, a polar fleece collar with a velcro closure that is not too wide might help. I'll look to see if I can find one.
