@Alana: Awwww shucks! :)! I'm still in the process of narrowing down my style and for me, it has been a 7 year process. Thank you for the kind words! If you hang around YLF more, you, too will be able to hone your style. The ladies here are absolutely lovely <3

Thank you for the tips on how to find the thread again! Much appreciated. I love your look--however you define it! (I'm just learning the terms, myself.) I am definitely encouraged to try to look as good as you do with the least number of pieces possible. You have set the bar quite high.

MKK: Here's the way I define urban and where I see "urban" in your style. (Keep in mind that others -- including you, maybe -- may define urban differently than I do.) Lots of black, a hard edge (which can also be classified as "warrior," yes), a certain sophistication. Basically, your looks say "city" to me, not "country" or "suburbs." Does that make sense?

Wow ladies! Thank you so much for all the interesting feedback! I really appreciate this. I definitely have a few questions/clarifications for the most recent comments!

@danskogirl: I seriously thought about Urban Warrior Princess, but my dilemma is this: what constitutes "urban" and what constitutes "warrior?" My preference for edgy accessories and footwear seems to fit the "warrior" part, and my dresses seem "princess", but what makes a style "urban"?

And hmmm... Flirtatiousness.. Interesting you say that because I think I'm either very invisible to men in an "attraction" sense (I have many male friends and work in a male-dominated industry). I'm often considered "one of the guys" and know little about flirting (I'm too direct and apparently lack feminine "mystery"!). I just found it funny you found my style coquettish! I briefly looked up the word:

"Coquette : a woman who likes to win the attention or admiration of men but does not have serious feelings for them"

YIKES! Male attention is the last thing I want - I've been too busy keeping up with them! Don't worry - I know you simply mean I have a playful flirtatious style! :)

Dress #14 is Maggy London. It's a wrap dress. Angie recommended this dress but in a different print!

@Firecracker: yup - I'm not all out bombshell. It's sort of even not all the way there. I get the "something like" feminine too. It's hard to pin down the skirt-loving, curve-loving aspect to my style with all the loud edginess surrounding it!

@Aubergine: "energetic" and "sweet" are often words I heard people describe me. I once tried wearing overly sweet items but I just didn't feel authentic. Somehow, I needed to balance the sweet with a bit of bold and a bit of edge.

Again, really interesting stuff! So far, this is what I've gathered from you all
- sophisticated
- edgy
- modern romantic eclectic
- urban warrior princess
- bold urban bombshell
- bold
- something like feminine
- bold urban coquette
- dramatic

Interesting stuff! My style must be difficult to put into words! I do struggle with the "feminine" part too because it's not quite "bombshell" or "princess" or "girly!"

These are all great looks and I definitely see lots of consistency. And I can't believe you've been going with only 22 pieces! I especially love seeing the cobalt dress with the drape and the chevron top whenever they come up.

Urban, some variation of feminine, and something like bold or dramatic are the first things that jump out at me in terms of potential descriptors. I do kind of like Danksogirl's suggestion of "coquette" as the feminine element. Definitely needs to be something that combines feminine with some kind of energy, not just sweetness.

I do also see just a little romantic eclectic, especially in the vintage feel of the jewelry combined with the more modern cuts.

Firecracker: Even though I suggested the term "Bold Urban Bombshell," I do agree with you that the word "bombshell" might be a bit too specific/strong for the style. But I also think the term "romantic" might be a bit too soft for the style. Agree with you on the "something like feminine" sentiment.

MKK: Is there an aspect of flirtatiousness to your style or personality? I'm asking because your smile in some of the photos seem, to my eye, to have an element of playful flirtatiousness to it. Which makes me think of the word "coquette." So maybe "Bold Urban Coquette?" (But just ignore that if I'm totally off the mark here.)

MsKatieKat, these outfits you've chosen are great, and I can see a coherent style. Some things that stand out to me are bold, edgy, and something like feminine. I say "something like" because I'm not sure that's specific enough. Maybe bombshell, though that seems almost too specific or too strong, perhaps. Sexy, maybe?

Haha! Lyn I don't think I can limit myself to dresses too, but I can at least force myself to be selective! Haha, a lot of these dresses are multi-season too so hopefully I don't get boooored!

My BF jokes that I'm going through my "Blue period" (just as Picasso did. if you're an art history buff, that's the reference). Its so much easier to find cobalt than magenta or purple these days. I find cobalt is an easier shade to get right! I have a very specific magenta/purple/red/emerald green in mind!

Good for you - I don't think I could limit myself to 33 dresses (I'd go crazy), or actually even 66 dresses (33 for summer, 33 for winter) ... although i'm sure that's all I really need. I guess I'm part magpie.

Love cobalt blue, btw. Totally a theme going on.

@Mo: my aunt recently moved to Florida and I haven't seen her with toppers - at least not frequently! A lot of tank tops and shorts!

And yeah a bit of shopping abstinence would be a way to minimize wardrobe. I find that I'm always purging. How is that going so far? I read your thread about non-shopping for a while!

With regards to my wardrobe - it's an interesting one. I realized that I don't necessarily have to have a smaller wardrobe - just a much more effective system of getting dressed in the morning without thinking about it too much. I've been aiming to stick to colour palettes that work with my neutrals and being able to get a system going where (almost) every tunic/legging/topper and topper/dress go with each other without me having to think too hard. I don't want wardrobe orphans. I also need the wardrobe to fit my lifestyle. Another thing - I have a tendency towards choosing multi-occasion/function dresses too. So I guess you can say it's a form of streamlining.

Rachy, #12 was a confused one as I really haven't figured out how to carry over my style to semi-formal. The shoes aren't quite the high vamp shoes I'd rather have. And the sunglasses were wedding giveaways.

I definitely see the contrast and the color palette. I see a sophisticated edge to your style, but am not so great at picking just the right words.
Love that vest in 7 and the deep watery colors of the skirt in 10. Your sheaths look fabulous on you.
Incidentally, I think I could easily do 33 items for summer, since toppers become nearly nonexistent.

The photos below are my favourite outfits through the month of May (and a bit of June)
1-5, 7-11: outfits I wore to work. (Very casual work environment)
6: an outfit I wore to give me a self-esteem boost
12: I wore this to a wedding
13: weekend casual wear
14: what I wore to the first workshop I facilitated/delivered

It's been over a month since I began my wardrobe minimalism project. I learned quite a lot about myself and how I approach style. Initially, I based this project loosely on Project 333, hoping I can live off 33 clothing items (doesn't count accessories, shoes and basics such as camisoles and tank tops). I managed to live on 22 and still going strong. So here's what I learned from this experience:

- limiting my items down to 33 made me extra picky in shopping
- comfort has become my #1 priority.
- aesthetic never took the back seat, but I work my aesthetic around comfort
- comfort comes with a wardrobe that suits my lifestyle (smart casual)
- I never repeated a single outfit combination for the month of May
- I need a system and rely heavily on formulas. The easier I get dressed in the morning, the better. I hate having to think about what I should wear
- my signature formula:
Modern casual/edgy topper + slim dress + tall boots
Modern casual/edgy topper + slim dress + edgy sandals/shoes
- I wear dresses a lot more than my separates
- I like long over lean. No semi-tucking or loose bottoms. I love wearing tunics because they're as comfy as dresses
- I prefer my tops structured. No floaty cardis or sweaters
- waistbands CANNOT dig to my stomach otherwise, I'll have breathing problems
- shoes have to be comfortable yet edgy

I realized that I have wardrobe holes:
- comfy, edgy smart-casual-and-arthritis-friendly footwear
- I need humidity-friendly dresses. Thinking about more shifts and cotton sheath dresses with Lycra/spandex.
- I am in DIRE NEED of lightweight structured toppers
- more edgy jewelry. Most of my bling these days are broken :(

So will I continue with a minimalist wardrobe? Likely not with a 33 item limitation. I'm shooting for 50 items total because I just love dresses and toppers!

I then started thinking of style descriptors and got a bit lost. Obviously there is consistency:
- I love vibrant colours
- black and denim are my neutrals
- I love prints. Particularly very bold graphic types
- I love edgy jewelry (mostly in pewter and dirty silver metal)
- I love casual/edgy structured jackets
- I'm crazy for moto jackets/vests
- edgy footwear is a must (I prefer it over classic pumps, flats, loafers)
- I'm not a sneaker girl (unless it's made of patent leather or it's glittery)
- I wear cocktail dresses casually - and all have narrow silhouettes

So that said, I feel like I need to reassess my style descriptors. I have them currently as Modern Classic, Tough Chic and Romantic Eclectic, I believe but it doesn't seem right. I do have RATE/tough elements like my footwear and jewelry choices but my dresses/preferred silhouette seem a bit bombshell to me. I also wear so much bold colours and graphics and a lot of black. So I'm a bit confused!

I have a really hard time being objective so help with style descriptors will be much appreciated! Thank you!
