Louise, that *might* help me. I'm trying to find a good visual way to scan options in putting outfits together and styling them. If I can't see it, it doesn't exist! That's why some sort of list is a good supplement for me.

There's a cool Iphone App called Touch Closet that lets you take phots and keep an inventory- I have had it for ages but haven't really used it much yet- it's on my 'To-Do list'

I have a list of every item of clothing I own in a word document. I don't use it much, but sometime it comes in handy when I'm trying to decide if I have a gap, or just need to do laundry

But seriously, it's possible, but I'm not sure how helpful it is. I grouped everything by type of item, and have a tally for each group (21 short sleeved t shirts, 8 jackets, etc).

I track my clothing expenses along with the rest of my budget in mint.com

I have a very small closet, and a lot of my knits are in drawers, so I don't have everything displayed visually. That's part of the reason why I'm looking for some sort of list/tool that I can quickly scan to see if I've forgotten some options (especially good for when I travel).

Laura, you're probably right that I could create something that will work; I just thought that there's no sense in reinventing the wheel if someone else has done something I could use or modify.

However, like many organizational tools, I think it's best to find a system that works in tandem with one's own mind or natural tendencies, rather that trying to shoehorn oneself into a system that isn't quite right.

Back to the drawing board, I guess!

I like the idea of a spreadsheet to track monthly clothes spending. I agree with Angie, if you only have items in one closet, and it is not jam packed to the brink of explosion, a list shouldn't be necessary.

I track my wardrobe with my eyeballs as it's easiest. Everything is in one place accept for coats. No swapped out seasons or multiple closet use.

I use a spreadsheet to track our monthly wardrobe purchases. Works like a charm.

I once made an Excel spreadsheet to track my wardrobe - it was vaguely based on the Very Small Closet concept but basically it just had a sheet per type of item, then each item listed with various attributes I wanted to track (say, wear for work, or casual, or what color it was, etc.) You could easily create one of your own based on your own needs.

I've played around with an iPhone app for inventory-ing my closet, but I haven't finished taking all the myriad of pictures of my garments that would be required, so it's not completely useful yet.

I'm looking for a simple tool to help me track my purchases and organize my wardrobe. I've seen a couple of the iPod apps but I really need something I can run on my computer, and something that's based more on a list than photos as I don't really have much time I can spend filling out all sorts of details.

Does anyone know of anything (or made anything) that I could try?
