@Kari thank you for the helpful review - you may have a Resin Twin (or Triplet, after @April) in the future! I do want to try the coated jean trend, but more like a 'waxed' than 'leather' look, so slightly muted black sounds great. I ended up giving away a jumper I had with zippers on the arms, because they got in the way too much, but hopefully ankle zippers will be tolerable. I like the way you're wearing the zips open in the photo btw - YLF! That mixed media top in particular looks great with the jeans :)

PS - The bodysuit sounds great too, but I own one sleeveless jumpsuit already & the bathroom situation already makes me think twice before putting it on. So I'll stick to admiring it on yourself & others instead

This absolutely makes sense. When something is so useful and is so integral to one's style, I think it's totally worth a direct duplication! I confess, I don't understand how this concept is incomprehensible to anyone. Of course many of us love having variety in our wardrobes, but when you have a building block that does heavy duty, it makes sense to have more than one to prevent laundry bottlenecks and to preserve the life of the beloved item. Especially if it is a hard-to-find or fit item!

I now have a direct duplicate of a beloved item that's wearing out. Suz pointed me to the Minkoff backpack that I have absolutely beaten up in the last 1.5 years -- Rack was selling them for a fraction of the original price, and I bought one. It's in my holding zone, waiting for the day my original one becomes too battered to use.

Kari I like to duplicate on my favourite items, but especially jeans, gear, underwear and shoes - if it works and meets the purpose that I want - then I am thrilled to be able to have a back up or duplicate in another colour.

Kari, thanks for sharing your thinking about duplicates. As I was reading, I related well to having backups of certain items. I have done that for two pairs of everyday shoes that are a unique color, hard to find, but one that works particularly well with my wardrobe. I have done the same with jeans, which are hard for me to fit well due to my long legs, long rise but comparatively narrow hips.

Zaeobi, with the 2 pieces you mentioned, the quality is quite high. I have had both the Next to Naked bodysuit and the Meuse resin jeans for several years.

•Bodysuit is a light, stretchy but not baggy knit. It’s not compressive at all, which is different from a lot of other workout gear; I’ve had no complaints about quality. I’m still running in the same bodysuit that I got years ago. No rips, no seam failures.
• Resin jeans are definitely more lightly coated denim, and they do stretch; in my experience they run a little large. I tend to buy them smaller, but once I wear them and they stretch to my shape, they don’t shrink up/stretch out again while washing. I wash in the machine inside out and hang them to dry to try to preserve the coating as much as I can, though my oldest pairs are less “shiny” and look more like really dark denim. I’m 5’5” and in the attached photo I’m wearing the longer 30” jeans. The zippers don’t scratch at all, whether I zip the jeans up or not.

This all makes sense, & follows my own philosophy - no one else is going to know I'm duplicating items unless I show them my closet lol, so what does it matter if I'm buying multiples for my OWN peace of mind anyway? In fact, I duplicated my long sleeved black yoga top 4 times, because I didn't want to have to wait for it to be clean & dry before the next time I could work out - so what if other people think I've just worn the exact same outfit to the gym again? Lol so long as I'm happy because I feel both cute & functional in my look - same goes for you!

Also I noticed that a few of the pieces you mentioned above are from Universal Standard - how are you finding the quality after multiple wears? I'm tempted by the bodysuit (keep seeing rave reviews for it) & I keep putting the resin jeans into my cart but then chickening out at the last moment. Do you find that the zip at the ankle is annoying, or hits your ankle bone as you walk (speaking of which, how tall are you, if you don't mind me asking)? Is it comfy & stretchy, or more like faux leather pants? Am debating which inseam length to get at just under 5ft4.

Wow , great thinking.

I go through phases. Though a few years ago , as I chose a “common core “ essential capsule , a started duplicating. V neck cashmere and merino wool pullover sweaters - same sweater , 3 colors in each fabric. So 6 total.

Then I started doing the same with v neck t shirts in grey and white. These are the pieces I wear most with everything. It’s really the skeleton of what I wear.

Same, Rachylou - it’s a bummer when comfortable, favorite sneakers get discontinued. (And thanks!)

Exactly, Suz - more frequent bottlenecks.

Thanks, Angie! And yes, having those backups is so nice. (There are a couple discontinued shoes that I’ve found backups of secondhand, such as my favorite ECCO flash t-strap sandals.)

Like you I do not put jeans or anything with Lycra or stretch in the drier. Therefore I need doubles of similar item. Mine are not identical but can fill in. I like to vary pants in width, length ( full length and crops or ankle length). Sometimes I need to change something half way through the day. Today my cropped wide black pants got too warm, so I changed into silk baggie pants with legs that narrow. Everything else remained the same...sapphire blue silk tank, black flats and silk scarf and black bags. These outfits went to a dental appt., to a garden center, and to the cleaners and shopping for May Basket stuff.

You’ve got me pegged with green! Especially when it’s an unusual enough color that would be hard to find again, and I am wearing it often, it seems worth seeking out a duplicate.

I thought this was an intriguing question, and since there are many folks who don’t duplicate items at all, I figured I would share my own multiples.

Rationale for duplication:
• I don’t have my own laundry facilities - it’s shared - and I have to pay per load, so I generally wait until I have a load’s worth of clothes that can be washed together.
• I don’t put jeans in the dryer, so if I wash them, I need an extra day (or maybe two in winter) for them to dry all the way on a rack.
• I can’t count on being able to find a replacement item quickly and easily if a favorite wears out and is discontinued; that’s the reality of being a plus size customer. For example, if I wanted to find a similar fitting and similar quality running jacket to the one I listed below, I am not sure I’d be able to; even that brand doesn’t seem to make jackets like this for plus size customers for the past couple years.
• Athletic clothes get a lot of sweaty use almost every time I wear them and typically need to go in the wash after 1 use. (Number of wears between washes for other items below vary depending on the time of year/climate/temperature and what kind of activity I’m wearing them for - and my tolerance for my pets’ hair on my clothes between washes.)
• These are all items I’ve had for years - 2.5 or more, some much earlier - so usually I’ve purchased the second item after about a year of heavy use of the first item.

Here’s what I’m NOT counting in this exercise:
• When I have the same style/size but in a different color. (I do that a lot, especially for tops and tees but also for pants, skirts, some knit dresses; I also have a couple running shoes in the same style in use at a time because rotating them is kinder to my feet and helps the shoes last longer; but just for fun, I got different colors each time.)
• Unused Backups: When a staple is wearing out, and I’m able to buy an identical backup that I wait to rotate into heavy use once I’m retiring the previous item. (I’ve done this sometime for shoes.)
• Bras/sports bras, underwear, socks; I have many multiples in these categories. Especially for bras, I’m picky about them and don’t have many options in the correct size compared to a smaller cup size, so when something works well, you bet I’ll get more than one.

Here’s what is on my multiples list:
• My favorite black athletic jacket. I have a couple other similar jackets in colors, but black is the most versatile and this jacket also fits me best. (If it had ever come in other colors I’d have scooped them up, but in my size it was only offered in black.) When I got the multiple, the original was long ago discontinued and I was lucky to find it really cheap secondhand in great shape.
• Athletic bodysuit that I sometimes use for loungewear, but more often use for running or yoga, black. (I also have one in a color for some variety, but black is easier to pair with any topper/jacket.)
• A favorite pair of athletic leggings, also in black. (See above; this is a favorite Zella style and I have several of these in bright patterns, but it’s nice to have black, too.)
• My favorite lounge joggers in black. (HEAVILY used during the past year for staying at home.)
• Black knit leggings.
• Green pajama bottoms that I wear frequently.
• Gray distressed jeans
• Mossy green jeans; scooped up this multiple pair mostly because I also found it for a cheap price secondhand, in great condition
• Dark resin-coated jeans; I have 2 pairs each of the 27” and 30” length. They are KIND OF backups because one pair each is older, but all 4 are in use.

Hope that makes sense!
