To your question on how to use it...
- are there any holes that you noticed?
- any times that you start to create an outfit and think "if only..."
- any duplicates that you might want to weed out?
- can you map your wardrobe by color or style (more/less formal) to see if you are missing anything?
- can you build a couple capsules from your collection? If you had less than an hour to pack for a week vacation, what would you bring? What if it was for work?
- are there any pieces that just don't fit? You can't make at least 3 outfits with them? Should they be donated, or do they need some closet friends?

I haven't used finds as much, but am keeping an excel inventory with notes on travel capsules (I"m on the road at least once a month) and a potential shopping list. So far (2 months post inventory) I'm finding that I can already pull some clothes that have outstayed their welcome, and that I need to go on a shopping ban for certain styles - no more stripes!

Hope this helps - will be interested to follow your posts!

I use YLF Finds and make notes in the note section. If I find that a piece works well with another or especially like an outfit, I will edit and add a photo of it for that item under additional photos. Only I can see it, I think, but that's just fine. in the Notes area I also make note of the size, brand, when and where I bought it and price in case I want to track cost-per-wear. If you get things in Finds, you can use the Outfit Generator with your wardrobe finds to get ideas for outfits.

Jenn, I was chagrined to realize that—and I thought of you & Sal specifically—as I entered my items. As you can probably guess, there are other pieces of luggage with bottoms, dresses and footwear coming. Once I got to the point of shipping some housewares, it just didn’t make sense to pay $60 per checked piece, when adding them to the shipment could bring down the price of the other pieces shipping AND get them delivered to the door. With a carryon, personal item, and checked piece each, plus a bike, we had plenty to get through customs & the airport with as it was. Had I realized how long it would take, I would have packed differently. As it is, I have this interesting little puzzle to work on.

Fashiontern, at 60 items, your "Berlin capsule" isn't that much smaller than my entire wardrobe. With 22 sleeveless tops and 2 pairs of shoes, though, I can see how it must feel like a puzzle where the pieces don't quite fit together!

Kkards, ah, then we aren’t understanding each other. When Angie posts a collection, her notes appear on the same page as all the images, each comment next to the corresponding image. That’s what I’d like to be able to do. I can see the notes for one item when I click on it, and it sounds like you can see them that way too. It’s “everything all at once” that I can’t figure out. Thanks for being so persistent in explaining.

Kkards, like Jenn, I haven’t been able to get my saved comments (they’re in there—can you see them when you click on items? The skinnies shown with strappy sandals have a comment, for example) to show up on the page picturing the whole collection.

Jenn, your game sounds like my life right now, lol. I don’t think creating outfits has ever been as big a deal to me as it is right now. Thanks for your comment. I completely hear you on developing systems to compensate for weaknesses—that is why my purse is precisely organized & the keys never, ever go anywhere but their designated home by the door. Otherwise, all he’ll would break loose.

Are there any systems into which it is easy to transfer data from Finds?

I haven't figured out how to get my item notes to show up with the items on the collection page, either. I think that might be a feature only available to Angie.

FWIW, I use the Closetspace app to track my wardrobe. It's kind of a pain to get started with, but now that I have everything in it, I find the upkeep and item tracking very easy. I think that's true of just about any system (analog or digital) that you choose.

There was some talk about detail-oriented vs big picture people in Sally's thread. I think most people, based on my tracking and the way I keep coming back to the data, would think I'm detail-oriented. The reality is, I'm quite the opposite. That's the reason I do the tracking. I can easily look at my wardrobe and know I have a lot of black and probably more skirts than I need. I get overwhelmed by and lost in details when I try to keep more info than that in my head, so I develop systems to help me. I suspect this has come about from the need to be detail-oriented at various points in my career, despite my natural tendency to gloss over the little things.

Also, it's fun for me...sort of a "gamification" of fashion, to try to wear all my new summer additions ten times, for example, or to make four outfits using one layering piece. It's a hobby.

(ETA: In Closetspace, I can tap on an item to scroll through all the outfits I've worn it in, as well as any I've just created and saved for future reference. I don't use that feature much, because I seem to like constantly reinventing the wheel, but it's occasionally made me realize something, "Aha! I don't wear that top anymore because the sweater I used to wear with it wore out" or something similar.)

FashIntern...you can write and save notes when you create a collection. its really easy, and will be totally evident how to do it when you create a collection.

go to finds
click on "mine"
click create collection
name your collection, add finds, add notes, save

Liz, I’d like to be able to have notes come up when I look at the collection, the way Angie’s roundups work. Can you tell me how to do that?

Suz, thanks for mentioning the ensembles and outfit generator. I should go play around with those. What would be most intuitive to me is mousing over something to see matches I’ve set up, and /or links to complete outfits. Your mention of the other app is helpful too—I may look into that, because keeping track of seats is a major thing I’d want to do, and doesn’t seem to be something YLF is set up for.

If you have it in YLF Finds, you can create ensembles, collections, or capsules with it. With Finds, you can list an item as something you are "shopping" for or "considering" or as part of your wardrobe, or wardrobe history. There's also the ROG outfit generator. https://youlookfab.com/2015/04.....generator/

If you created an "ensemble" in Finds, you could add a note (there's a space for that.) Angie posts her own Finds ensembles on the blogs sometimes or here on the forum.

Several other members here use Stylebook and other platforms and do stuff with those. I don't used those so am not an expert.

I inventoried my wardrobe for the first time ever in my “Berlin” collection. So many people here get so much out of inventorying what they have that I wanted to see how it works for me.

Technical questions: are there YLF tools that are useful for this purpose? If not, what systems are easy to use that I could transfer info into easily?

Non-tech question: beyond tracking wears, how would you suggest I use it?

One function I know I’m looking for, that’s part of both questions, is recording ideas for outfit creation. As I took pix, I wondered if the “jungle” tank and the tan/black mattress ticking shirt might go well together. What’s the easiest way to make a note of that and similar ideas?
