I'm happy not being a minimalist, but I'm <i>really </i> happy to go through and recognize that it's not just a big collection - they're worn and loved. It also really confirmed all of purchases I've made in the last year. They really are wise and useful choices.</p> <p><b>jenanded</b>, it really is bigger than I need! But I'm grateful for it, because I've been able to have my clothes and shoes all out at the same time (unlike my previous home).</p> <p><b>RWS</b>, they're the drop-front boxes from Container Store. LOVE THEM. A bit of an investment in quantity, but I bought all of these nearly four years ago and never regretted it. Very efficient in space (including doubling up flats), easy to organize, no issues keeping them in order. Stacking boxes is doomed to failure, and with my quantity it's not possible to scan them for what I want to wear. I've literally been tripping over them on the closet floor, so it was time!</p> <p>I have quite a large collection, but many of them are dedicated to specific purposes. I had to assess these sets in isolation from each other.</p> <p>Including dance shoes, 1940s wardrobe shoes, house shoes; excluding rain boots, overshoes, and dedicated costume/reenacting shoes, this is what I STARTED with:</p> <p>106</p> <p>Pairs I identified to give away or sell:</p> <p>18</p> <p>Holding zone (mostly boots I didn't use last winter, but I was still figuring things out then):</p> <p>6</p> <p>House shoes:</p> <p>4</p> <p>My 1940s/vintage/reproduction shoes were the most significant set that I approached separately. These ones aren't part of my regular wardrobe, but neither are they dedicated for particular costumes. Instead, they represent a capsule ready to go for a 1940s wardrobe. Ready to go for reenacting or vintage events! I did clear out two pair to sell/donate because they really do not fit and/or are redundant. Of the remaining, another two pair are identified as temporary keep because they're wearable and fit a hole but aren't the best fit.</p> <p>13 (includes 2 pair 1930s and 1 pair 1950s)</p> <p>Dance shoes (3 tap, character, ballet, &amp;c.):</p> <p>8</p> <p>Everything else (i.e. the ones I will use in regular life):</p> <p>57</p> <p>57 pair is really not bad for a non-minimalist shoe-lover! Especially since it still includes the dozen or so pair of pumps that don't get daily wear (mostly because of heel height). I've been diligently working at expanding my collection to have more types of shoes. Two years ago, I had lots of pumps, some very casual flats, very casual sandals, and tall boots. When I discovered YLF at that point, I started figuring out what types of shoes would fit the "smart casual" gaps I had in all of my seasonal wear. In the last year, I've been diligently filling those holes and updating the overall selection. I'm pretty happy with the variety now. </p> <p>Pictures:</p> <p>1. In progress- the most used waiting to be put in slots. In pictures: heaps of shoes elsewhere in bedroom and bathroom. </p> <p>2. All put away! The most-used in the clear boxes, with tall boots underneath and sneakers and booties on top. (Pink and green drawers to be replaced with clear boxes, pair of tall boots to be hung, and one more cube for the house shoes.)</p> <p>3. Dance shoes, less-used pumps (part of the 57), and 1940s shoes are up high. Visible, and accessible with effort. </p> <p>4. The most-worn and loved. This picture makes me smile! </p>
