Had the same thought as Brooklyn, that maybe it's the all greyness of #1 tha put you off. Greyish tones don't look bad on me but they depress me, maybe you're the same?
Uniqlo trousers do look like lounge pants, rather thin and unstructured. Sweater looks good.
Hard to see what's wrong with the jacket at that pic angle : too big around the shoulders?

Sorry to be slow coming back to people on this thread - life got in the way!!

Joy - I agree totally with your comment. The chain/mall stores here are all a bit "same same" and my best successes come from independent boutiques and occasionally thrifting.

Jenn- I don't think I have worn this sweater on the forum but I wear it once or twice a week at a minimum - it was a "going out" sweater but now it gets worn mostly with skinny jeans or ponte leggings for sports viewing or lounging or similar. I love the linen pants/Eileen Fisher type look but it never quite feels right on me so downgrading these pants seems better than handing them on.

Brooklyn and Jenn- I am not sure with the leather jacket - it is a true red. I think the collar feels off and the length feels kind of in - between. Never the less while not a workhorse it does get worn. The tweed jacket and snakeskin scarf are both brown, but a cooler shade. I think wearing them with black is dragging them down and especially since I don't really love these boots either.

Brooklyn - jeans shopping ugh!! I am going to head to a local boutique or two that carry premium denim and do some trying on. I would love to try some of the Mother and CoH brands I see forum members wearing; here it could well cost close to $400. We will see how I get along - and I hope you have success.

Thanks Rachy!!

Sterling - yes I agree, I know what you mean about the flaws. In this case the pants are comfy but I feel sloppy wearing them - but for very casual wear that is fine. The jacket I think will always be a jacket I wear once a month for a change up - rather than a regularly worn item. The length and the collar are the things I don't particularly like,

Hi Sal. I'm glad you are feeling better. If I understand correctly, you have completed some wardrobe editing and are now reviewing a few more items that you don't exactly love but do not want to pass on for one reason or another. So your goal is to repurpose them to casual wear? Or are you experimenting to see how you might make them work for you? Like others, I think the leather jacket is gorgeous on you. The fit is perfect. Can you put your finger on why you don't care for it? Do you have other leather jackets you like more?

I have never had much luck trying to repurpose items. Usually if I don't like something it has a "fatal flaw" that prevents it from being of use in other areas of my life (e.g., cut or fabric). Especially the feel of the fabric against my skin.

Your list of future purposes is well thought out. I remember you mentioning a new purse. I look forward to seeing what you might buy. Happy hunting.

Hi Sally! I have been away with unreliable internet so my participation in the forum has been patchy. Not sure if I have missed something - what is it that you don't like about the outfits? The pink jacket is a good colour for you. Is it the colour or the style that you aren't feeling? I really like the first outfit but I think that (like me) you are trying to move away from grey. Perhaps you could try it with a different scarf?
I desperately need new jeans too. Two pairs have failed recently and I have donated two that weren't working for me. I will follow your hunt with interest.

It's interesting how feelings and sense of self play into these decisions, because I think all these outfits look pretty good. I can see how the tweed coat outfit might not really feel like you, though. The top you're wearing with the Uniqlo pants is so great that it's hard for me to even see the bottoms. They're just an invisible anchor. If they're comfortable enough for at-home wear, that seems to be the way to go.

I think the leather jacket is great. What about it feels wrong to you? Color? Shape?

Good to have a plan. Good for you for supporting local retailers. Other than consignment shops, everything is looking the same to me. I would like to find a tailor that would do some projects for me, like doing some applicay on a bomber jacket or change sleeves.

Sounds like thoughtful edits, and a very thoughtful list of things to add.

I would love to say I support local retailers, but as most don;t stock my size, I rely on the internet.

I was housebound most of last week - sadly I got the flu on holiday and spent the rest of the week recovering at home. Fashion was put aside.

In the weekend I did have a small wardrobe edit and removed an old favourite dress (I was so sad to do so but it was pilling, the zipper had given up the ghost and the seams were falling apart). I also removed a sequin jumper that I decided just is not me, and a scarf I have never ever worn after two years of owning. The second two are off to the thrift shop (opshop).

I am now trying to wear the small number of winter pieces outside my capsule - there are a few up for review.

1) My leather jacket and skinny jeans. I think this is a pass but I just do not love this leather jacket. I feel it is not quite my style, however I think I will retain it.

2) Some Uniqlo pants. I also never feel fab in these and have decided to downgrade to at home wear. This sweater is one of my most worn pieces as loungewear, casual wear (it was in the 30x30 but I think not pictured). I did not mind this combo for at home wear.

3) More work from home. My old tweed coat, a black turtleneck and my black moto boots. I am not wild about this look at all but the boots are too practical to pass on - they work on soft muddy ground. This outfit feels like the wrong neutrals on me.

I have two more items I will try and wear this week to evaluate whether to keep or pass on. A black pencil skirt (I want to look as good as Jane and Srah look in their ones but I am not sure I can achieve that) and some black boots that I have owned for seven years and am just "over".

I decided I definitely want to add in over the next few months the following for late winter/spring refreshers:
- Handbag
- New aviator sunglassses - gold frame
- two off white tops, one with a pattern for wearing under jackets
- new jeans

That will be more than enough given the price of bags, jeans and glasses sadly. I do like to support local retailers 80% of the time but these items can be expensive.

Thanks - sorry for the ramble:)
