Perhaps because I wear scarves from mid fall to late spring I have plenty of chances to lose them. And I do. I would duplicate one which was wonderful.
For years I lamented the loss of a beautiful silk square bought at Liberty in London which had somehow untied itself from around my neck. Decades later my husband, a master eBay sleuth, found me a replacement. Try to avoid such a quest.

I’ve never duplicated a scarf. They’re something I like to change up a lot... altho, wait... I did buy a ton of ‘pashminas’ once in every colour possible. That was mostly unnecessary, except for when it wasn’t.

That said, if I really love something and lose it, the pain is real. I still mourn my lavender Barney’s ear flap hat which I owned for all of three days and lost somewhere between airplane and front door. I think it’s worse losing something to travel... if I could replace that hat, I still would.

I’m thinking of getting a scarf I have already in a different colour way, so not quite a duplicate. It’s the thick fabric I love. But no I don’t think I would do an exact duplicate.

If you think you might lose the scarf (and have done so in the past), then duplicate. I would suggest duplicating if stuff gets moth holes at your place, but then maybe both would get moth eaten!

Keep in mind that scarves change in dimensions over the years -- overall size, shape, etc. just like everything else. Same with patterns. At some point, you may feel your scarf is dated.

I don't think I'd duplicate an exact scarf. If the colors work particularly well for you, my preference would be to find another scarf in the same color palette to give you a bit of variety...but I find it useful to have variety in scarves.

I would duplicate it under the conditions you mention. Scarves do get soiled, snagged, and may just lose their shape. If it is wool, it could get holes while in storage.

I have duplicated in a different colour, but never the exact same piece. That being said, I do have a couple that if I ever lost, or got a bad snag in it, I'd be heartbroken.

I am not naturally a scarf person...

But I did just hunt down a duplicate pair of beloved booties (Paul Green) after spilling something on mine and ruining them. They're a few years old but I found a brand new pair on ebay and was elated! I'm not sure I would duplicate a scarf unless the price is very, very low. And then, if you don't use it you could always gift it.

I have duped a favorite pattern scarf. It was not super expensive, nor super fancy, but I loved the fabric weight and the versatile color palette, and I had room in both the budget and my closet.

Sure enough, about a month after I bought it, one of them got caught on a zipper and had a major 'snag' across it. When I was unable to fix the snagged areas, I snipped the thread and it made a hole in it :(

I have duplicated only one scarf in my life - a beloved designer piece that I lost after owning for 5-6 years . I finally threw the money down and replaced it , and am so happy I did.

I have accidentally duplicated scarves; seeing a gorgeous black and white floral, purchasing it, and then hanging it up next to the other sharp black and white scarf I already own. So I regretfully second Toban's comment. By the time you wear that scarf out (and I've certainly done it), you will find another similar one that you like just as much.

Highly unlikely that something would happen to it that it would require replacing. I would only duplicate a scarf if you might want to keep one at work or your car or a secondary residence. Or if you tend to lose your scarves ...,

Greetings :)

Do you ever buy scarf duplicates? In December I bought a marvelous patterned wool scarf in the color mix where all colors suit me! And it looks good with every outwear, and with every hat... And with me, even when there is no makeup.
Now it's even cheaper, like, the "last sale item". And I wonder, shall I get another one?
On one hand, how often is it to find an item that fits to everything? It's pretty warm and I need it only in the cold season (4-6 months). Or I can use it at home as a wrap.. :) On the other hand, I think, "what can possibly happen to a scarf that I might need a duplicate for it? It's not a t-shirt or hosiery, right?".
Has this ever happened to you and what solutions did you choose?

P.S. I want to thank everyone for your help with my chartreuse skirt problem! Ironically, the problem got solved by the skirt being torn when I tried to put it on...)))
