I saved this thread to read when I had more time because I knew it was going to be a goodie.
And you know I can completely relate to everything you wrote here, Tanya, with us being Cool Summer twins!-) It’s such a treat too to read your analysis, and to learn more about your approach for the coming season (I am taking notes).

Angie, you are right that 7 and 8 are totally Tanya and my colours;-)

Tanya, to clarify: I’ve never felt drawn to black for myself even though I can wear it in combination with another colour close to my face. I’ll hardly ever go for black tops, and even black bottoms are never at the top of my wish list (however I am super excited to start sporting the Halogen crop kick flares from the NAS). Blush is tricky for me, it can quickly wash me out. So I tend to go for an icy pink as “my blush”.

The last decade or so, my closet was severely lacking in green clothing items as well. As a few other ladies have pointed out: the cool greens just never seemed to be around (with the exception of a very expensive item here and there). However, I did indeed get a few fab cool green items during NAS this year, and am super excited to further build a green wardrobe capsule.

I am super excited to see how you are going to be wearing the colour palettes discussed here (all gorgeous), and have no doubt you are going to look fantastic all Fall/Winter long!

Right now, I am feeling I have too much black.

But back to you. I hope you do consider a career in communications. It is an overlooked quality that doesn't seem to be taught very well in schools.

I know brilliant people. Brilliant!!! But a few of them cannot communicate their ideas very well and their work gets lost in translation, frustrating them. It is a team and project loss.

What a fabulous post. Such clear and concise analysis. People have to be able to analyze the information at hand and then communicate the results. I know engineers that cannot complete the second half of that equation. You on the other hand are GREAT at it.

Since I am following in your footsteps, I'll begin my color analysis today. Color has a huge impact on my mood (both in clothing and in interior design).

I am not as disciplined as you. I think I am going to find that although I am a true winter I buy whimsically across all the seasons (not always to my benefit). I really hope I am wrong and that I will find I did buy in tight color groupings. At least that had always been the plan.

I am going to perform my analysis a bit differently than you. I am going to pull everything out of the closets/drawers and group the clothing in "color groups" on the floor. The size of individual color groups will yield weighting factors. I can compare contrast the shades within each color group. I can evaluate how my actual closet compares to my preferred color scheme.

Now that I have a plan I am looking forward to implementing this phase. My Fall/Winter wardrobe will be transitioned back into my working closet as part of this evaluation. Yay.

I'm going to do this twice a year from now on.

Sterling, no worries, feel free to comment whenever ( and if) you want.

Torontogirl, Anne and Sally, yes, I like thoroughly analyzing things in general. I type slowly, otherwise I would be always posting long posts like this. It is fun to hear about similar colorings, too, we can all take inspiration from each other.

UmmLila, I try to suppress my scientific ways outside of the lab, but occasionally they can not be hidden We do wear very similar colors, though I think you can do some warmer tones and tans I can not pull off. Let's hope we both find some teal, I will keep my eyes open.

Suz, I am sorry you lost you long comment, that occasionally happens to me too and it can be very frustrating. And it is always the long comment, isn't it, it never happens with a short one. Your burgundy outfit sounds fantastic and I can't wait to see you sport it.

Ugh -- I just wrote a long response that my computer ate.

Anyway, the gist was that I wear black exactly as you do (core essential item or special item -- although that is changing a bit now with grey hair as it looks better in patterns) -- that we wear all the same colours, and that my closet is in exactly the same place vis-a-vis green and beloved teal, so that must reflect what we've seen at retail the past few years. Let's both be on the hunt for great teal items.

I'm on board for all burgundy or berry (or leavening it with blush). I am considering wearing my Dres with the Vince dress and my cranberry sweater! :)

I'd also like to continue to build my berries and orchids, especially for summer where I have far fewer than I thought.

Goodness very thorough analysis.

In terms of colour availability we have a fair bit of teal around here right now and there has been this winter (and blush, and black of course). Greens are one of my favourite colours and there has been very little in retail here for a while with the exception of army green/olive/khaki which I mostly now avoid after catching glimpses of myself in the mirror and being scared!! In fact I am holding onto a green striped top because I like the colour so much but I am not into the style at all!!

I particularly like pics 5 and 6 and look forward to seeing you wear them.

Like you I take the colour analysis about 75% .

This is how we know you're a scientist, Tanya! Great analysis, and I'm paying close attention because our color palettes are very similar. I was also thinking about setting up a blush top/ burgundy bottom look for fall. And I love teal, though it's not around as much as I would like it to be these days -- it's definitely one of my best colors.

Thank you for the kind words, everyone. It took a bit of work to make all those color photos but I am glad I did since now I will have a perfect reference.

Jen, I have missed my teal. Hope there is more if it in the stores this season.

Mochi, I am sure you could do something similar only if you set yourself to it.

Ginger and StyleFan, you are both right, there has not been much cool green in the stores lately. Maybe that will change soon.

Deb, you are very kind, thanks.

Smittie, high five to my fellow summer sister! My eyes are pale blue but very clear, that particular shade of blue is not muted.

DianeG, you have such lovely style and pair your colors beautifully, I am sure you could do something similar. I would love to come and visit one day :)

Angie, thank you so much, you are making me blush again. You are spot on about #7 and #8 being my and Inge's colors. I did not realize she does not wear blush&black, interesting. I seem to remember that she has a nice selection of cool greens though, so Europe may have been a better shopping turf for those. One day we should meet for tea and you can wear head to toe tomato red while I will do the same with berry/burgundy. And you comment about fuchsia being a great color for me confirms I am a Cool and not Soft Summer, as the fuchsia is way too strong for Soft summers.

We are summer sisters! High five and cheers to Berry and heather grey!

As Ginger and Style fan say, green just hasn't been available. I would have worn more of it too. I love green. Wish I had more of it around the house too.

I'm glad you wear to Tomato red. It looks great on the bottom half from what I've seen. I also love the saturation on you. I assume that if you have clear blue eyes that the tomato is not overwhelming.

I think you can wear brighter colours if you wanted to.

I have to run, Tanya. But wanted to chime in briefly to say that YOU ARE BANG ON THE MONEY with your colour analysis. LOVED IT.

I see #7 and #8 and think "Tanya & Inge". Minus the blush and black, you and darling Inge wear the SAME colours.

You can wear head to toe berry, and I'll wave to you wearing head to toe tomato.

This is a great analysis. I like the colour combos that you have picked for yourself. Very pretty. I love putting colours together. I am a bit of a colour nut actually. I am a Warm Autumn (True Autumn in some systems).
Green is a colour that comes and goes in retail. I think there is going to be a lot of cool green this season. Lucky you. Olive green is always in abundance.

This is a really great analysis, and I like how far you've taken your seasonal analysis.
I thought I was a Cool Summer for years, but the palette is just too muted for me. It definitely sounds good for you. The single palette that I'm closest to is a Cool/True Winter, except that purples and berries are *not* my favorites. There's definitely red tints in my hair which most people don't think goes with Cool Winter; maybe that fights with the purple. By the same token greens and blues look doubly terrific.

Sorry, didn't mean to make this about myself! FWIW, I also love green and can wear a great many shades, but I also don't have much of it. I think this is actually because it's been scarce at retail for years, at least anything that's not olive or citron. Last fall was the first time I'd seen significant amounts of hunter in quite a few years. Mint is a fairly recent color, too. Teal is a fantastic color for you, so I hope you can find some good pieces in upcoming months.

Brilliant. These are colors I would never think to juxtapose, but they work so beautifully together. I wish I had more patience to do this myself. I'll vicariously enjoy your explorations. ETA that yes, 5 is stunning.

So here goes another item from my large wardrobe analysis list. This post will have two parts - the actual colors I have in my wardrobe, and the color combinations I am planning to wear this fall.

For those who are into color type analysis, I am self proclaimed Cool (True) Summer. My personal estimate is that I am about 75% Cool Summer and 25% Soft Summer, based on looking at the color palettes and how those colors look on me. Pretty much all the colors from The Cool Summer work well, even the strongest ones do not look off. I can even borrow a lot of colors from it's sister season, Cool (True) Winter. A lot of the warmer colors from the Soft Summer do not look good on me at all, despite people usually thinking at first I am Soft Summer because of my coloring ( dark ash blonde hair, very pale skin, but icy pale blue eyes). Anyway, I do not take this too seriously and this level of analysis works well enough - I am not interested in taking it further and deeper.

Part I:

I haven't started the edit the actual clothes in my closet yet, but it is well organized and provides a great opportunity to look at colors in it in general. I have a lot of "my neutrals", which are white/cream, all shades of grey including charcoal, navy/ink, black, a little olive (cooler versions) and some taupe. I have noticed that a small percentage of my creams has a bit of the yellow undertone which is not flattering, so I need to stay away from those in the future. I am fine with black - it is a good though not my best color, and I like wearing it in reasonable amount. Most of my black items are either very special, like the new TT coat from NAS, or super basic, like a simple black cashmere turtleneck. I have very little tan/brown in my closet. Most of the tans/cognacs are leather accessories, such as shoes, bags and belts, which I like how they look with blue denim. I have only two truly brown items, and they are both bitter chocolate/cool brown - a lovely Soia&Kyo wool coat and tall flat brown suede boots. They always get some wear in the winter though never a lot, but I hope to purposefully aim for more than usual wear this season, as brown seems to be coming back strongly. I do not have the desire to add any more brown though. If I need to add some neutrals this season, I would strongly try to find some more ink.

When it comes to non-neutrals, there are a couple of color groups. I have a lots of blue in pretty much every possible shade, especially since I wear lots of denim. I also have lots of pinks, plums, purples and berries, as well as burgundies. These two seem to be my major color groups. I have very little red that is not burgundy, and those are mostly deeper, blue-based reds. There is almost no yellow, orange and coral, I even stay away from warmer pinks. I do have a couple of items in these "bad" colors bought on purpose for fun combos, such as the famous tomato red cropped pants or a pair of coral flats to punch up my blue denim. They are fun on occasion, but not something I wear regularly. To my surprise, I have realized that I have almost no green in my wardrobe either, and I do not know why that is, since I really like blue based/cool greens and they suit me well. There are a couple of mint items I wear in spring and one hunter green silk blouse, and that is it. There are a bunch of items in the aqua/turquoise family, but I consider those blues with just a touch of green. Finally, teal is one of my best colors and I used to have a lot of it, but there isn't much left. I would like to purposefully try to add more teal, especially since I am very excited about couple of slightly unusual color combos to do with it. I am not sure what do do about green, whether I should try to add some or just leave the situation evolve organically.

Part II:

When it comes to color combos to wear this season beyond the obvious one or two neutrals + one color, I have organized them in three families, and they almost all feature blush/light pink. Thus I won't spend time on obvious pairings such as burgundy+charcoal with possible addition of black.

The first family all started with navy+burgundy+blush combo Angie posted as an ensemble last season. I am super excited about it and hope to wear a lot of it. Then last season I bought a scarf that was olive+burgundy+blush, and realized I love that too. And another one that was navy+burgundy+ pale blue (photo #1). Then I realized these color combos could be represented by the image in photo #2, where you pick 3 - two darks and one pastel out of 5. Some combos would be more obvious, when the pastel has its matching dark, like the navy+burgundy+blush. Some would be a bit more unusual, like olive+navy+blush, when the pastel is missing the dark from its color family but I have seen it on some clothing items and it looks really cool. Any two colors out of those five together would work well too. Finally, there are some darker derivatives I have seen with cobalt replacing light blue or black replacing navy (#3). I can even imagine some equivalents with hot pink replacing blush, but did not bother making another photo.

The second color combo family is much simpler, it simply means wearing pastels, that is blush and pale blue, with black (#4). The combo may be softened with an a addition of white, pale grey or silver. This was inspired by a bunch of recent ensembles Angie posted as well as looking at the runway shows and it looks really fresh to my eye.

The final family revolves around teal in two color combo groups. The fist one is lots of fun and I saw it in couple of places lately, with blush/light pink, and maybe some tan/toffee to soften it up (#5 and #6) . The second one is one of my favorite color palettes of all times and I mentioned it earlier in the spring, in involves combining shades of teal with shades of purple, and may add greys or navies to anchor. (#7 and #8). Thus these are strong incentive to try and find more teal.

ETA: I forgot to mentioned something and then remembered when commenting on another maroon thread. I really want to try head-to-toe shades of burgundies/berries too as Shopbop recommends as one of the major trends for the season :https://www.shopbop.com/boutiq.....165280.htm

If you made it so far, you are are a trooper. In a nutshell, I plan to wear lots of blush, burgundy/berries, blue in all shades and teal in interesting color combos this season.
