Thanks one and all! I'll definitely keep up with the daily photos, then, as that seems to be a good one. So glad there are other Excel/database enthusiasts out there!

Greyscale, I'm a size 8 :)

Thanks for all the encouragement and will look through others' thread that have done the same

Hello,
I'm still new here and really enjoy this forum
Those are great ideas and I will try tracking as well.
A few weeks ago I finally did a spring cleaning in my closet and found quite a few items - clothes, bags and shoes - I didn't even know I had.
One thing that actually shocked me was a Prada handbag still with tags and store receipt that I have obviously never used and had completely forgotten about.
I need a system and logging what I wore etc is a great idea.
Thank you for the idea.

What great motivation! Love the closet/wardrobe analysis threads. I especially like your "make no assumptions" rule...so many times I've been about to give up on something only to discover a formula or YLF inspiration that changes my mind. Sometimes it "saves" the item, or, if even then I don't love it, I'm able to purge it with a clear conscience as I understand why it doesn't work. Can't wait to hear/see your progress!

Cleaning out your closet, learning what you look and feel good in is always a good idea. There are currently some services and technologies that can really help. There are multiple virtual closet apps on the market that can help you get & stay organized with scheduled outfits and packing lists. Closetapp.com is my current favorite.
You can also hire an image consultant/ personal stylist / wardrobe consultant to help you clear out clutter and build a system that works for you.

I'm currently doing research to create a company that does both of these things for clients. Using a virtual closet we can bring down the cost of having regular access to a stylist who can show you new ways to wear what you already own. You can see the initial concept here as we begin to grow to-love-style.com

I would love to track what I wear with photos, but I'm finding it very hard to get good photos. My one sunny photo spot is full of boxes right now so I can't use it, and my black clothing acts like a black hole and doesn't show up at all if the lighting is wrong. But this is reminding me to fix that problem somehow.

Speaking of red flats, you don't happen to be a size 6, do you?

I too have been actively tracking since 1/1/2014. I am a computer geek so I am using an Access database that I created for this purpose- allows me to categorize clothing, create outfits from existing clothing, and create photo links to the outfits. If anyone wants more info, you can PM me. Sadly, I started out small but have now gotten very elaborate- but the upside is the application can deliver a lot of analyzable information.

Fabulous!!

I have been tracking more regularly (almost every day) since November 1. I don't know why it took me so long to get on that bandwagon, but it did. In the past I'd do K/R posts, or WIWs for special events or with some new items, and travel capsules. But it's the daily photos (whether or not you show them here) that really do the important work. And asking whether you enjoyed wearing it and how it performed is also great. I've been making lots of discoveries this way.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Well, having been more active on the forum of late, you've all really got me inspired to bring some consciousness to my closet!

Inspired by Aziraphale's thread (here), I have started photo'ing and tracking what I am wearing each day, whether I was happy with it through the day, and a few other details.

I plan to stick with this for a month, to learn:

what I wore and LIKED and what I didn't like

what I didn't even wear

any other little revelations I have

To support this little project, I am setting myself some rules:

wear both my go-tos and wallflowers - make no assumptions!

no shopping UNLESS I find a holy grail version of one of the following: red flats, a light gray solid scarf, and a fitted black/dark neutral button-up (current items on my "must get" list )

At the end of this project, it will be almost time for a winter purge (fingers crossed!), so this should help - then I'll figure out Step 2! Thanks for letting me drone on here - I figured a public declaration might help keep me on track :D
