The smaller brush adds a soft wave, while the larger brush is an easy way to add volume. The hot air, inexpensive Conair works well for me because my hair takes a curl easily, and I've never had any problems with breakage damage on my baby-fine hair using it. The Conair was recommended to me by my stylist over a decade ago when I asked her for her recommendation for a curling iron for fine hair. Sorry I don't remember the brands. I have since bought a ghd and am very happy with it. It is a straightener.
