Kari, I really am digging the bit of ALGO you're adding to your outfits recently. This is a fab pattern mix, and you know I just love seeing all of your incredible dresses. If I had leopard flats, I would totally totally wear them with my emerald skinnies, what a lovely pairing!

Had a busier lunch break than anticipated; coming back now to first of all say thank you for all of the kind comments. I'm glad that this pattern mixing attempt worked so well!

Natalie, I carried my cobalt handbag (my "bag of the week" right now.)

Lyn, it took me LOTS of practice and failed attempts before I started mixing brights together and feeling confident about it.

Angie, I hadn't thought of this as a summer outfit necessarily, but thinking about it now, you're right that the lighter leopard print and brown backdrop really adds some freshness and tempers the darkness of the dress.

This is another one of those patterned poly-blend knit dresses that has totally earned its cost per wear!

Thanks Claire! The haircut is just about two weeks old but wasn't drastic-just reshaping and trimming layers back into submission. I find I "grow into" my cuts after a week or so, especially in the bang area.
I appreciate the compliment!

That is such a stunning dress. I normally default to putting red with my leopard flats but this is a gorgeous and somewhat unexpected color combination, not to mention some amazing pattern mixing. I am inspired. This looks truly stunning.

Wowee. STUNNING! Kari knocks it out of the ballpark yet again! I love the emerald green with leopard! The pattern mixing is so sophisticated. And the denim and black feathers are just the perfect touch! Which handbag did you carry with this outfit? Mustard or cobalt? Love your profile pic too--your hair and makeup are so striking especially with the green background. Emerald really is your signature color! And I love your wild side!

Well, leopard *is* a neutral after all, and it bookends your hair somehow. BTW, hair is looking especially fab, did you just get it cut? Love your chic outfit. The black necklace is so much fun with the denim jacket.

You'd think that as someone who did not own animal print anything until very recently, that I would start by pairing animal print with brightly colored solid basics. That would be the sensible choice, right?
Actually, I think I started out wearing animal print that way, and I found I loved leopard print with cobalt blue, cherry red, and emerald green.

Lately, though, I've found that my animal print pieces are pushing me further into hectic pattern mixing. At first I barely dipped my toes into the water by pairing patterned micronet hose with an animal print blouse. Then, after the very recent acquisition of two pairs of animal print low-heeled pumps, I went full steam ahead into Team "ALGO" (that's A Lot Going On), inspired to wear this busy outfit to work, incorporating dalmatian print with a large bold, abstract print. I suppose the subtle pattern of the ribbon-as-belt and the layers of different sizes of pearls would count too.
I think that what made me feel that the most recent outfit worked was that black and white were incorporated in all of the patterned pieces, and the scale of the patterned shoes was small whereas the print on the blouse was quite large.

So I decided to give the same concept a shot with the as-yet-unworn leopard print pumps, combining the shoes with a remix of the outfit I wore to the Old Hollywood wedding earlier this summer. Sometimes the marble emerald and black pattern of this knit dress reminds me of a somewhat abstract zebra print, and yet there is the grounding presence of a black base in both the shoes and dress. I wanted to wear this outfit in a more casual way (and needed some extra warmth on a cool day), so on went the denim jacket.
Finally, as animal print also apparently gives me a taste for the theatrical, I added the same black bead/cord necklace and feathery pendant that I originally wore during the wedding.

(#5 is a bonus shot of B. and I behind a "Hollywood couple" cutout poster they had at the wedding, just for kicks.)
