A walkable heel really has to go the distance for me - and that means a lot more than 20 minutes of walking.

I have the Okalas and like them, but like rabbit I don't think they are as comfortable as a shoe that has a more solid base. Still, I can walk a couple of miles in them (a bit gingerly, I admit, since like her, I am used to STRIDING in my shoes, LOL) and for a fancy shoe they are comfortable.

My more comfortable heels are all booties and boots and sandals that secure my foot. My heel is very narrow and my instep and arch relatively high, which means I fly out of pumps in an instant. The only truly comfortable shoes for me are the ones that strap me in! :)

I think you need to know the shape and type of your foot; each manufacturer works from a different last. The shoe that works for one will be agonizing for another.

The most comfy pair of heels I have owned is the BR Giah.

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....=558360032

However, the ones I had were suede, which was really soft. I don't know if the nonsuede ones are as soft. The heel was low and stable, and the footbed had a lot of cushioning. They ran a half size large, at least on me.

I have also found my Okalas to be comfy. But I haven't worn them all day, or even for more than a few hours (and that involved a lot of sitting). But based on your requirements (20 min. of standing), I think they would be OK. I think the heel height might be a bit over 2.5", but Angie says the heel feels much lower, and I agree.

Rabbit is correct in that if you want a comfy heel, the best option is a blockier heel, or a wedge. There's more surface area to support the foot and your body weight. But this may or may not work with your fashion persona. Sometimes we have to do a tradeoff. I don't look good in chunky footwear, so I end up getting the smaller heel and sacrifice comfort. But I don't need to be in heels for hours at a time, so for now it's OK.

Admittedly I only tried on the Okalas at Nordstrom and walked around for about five minutes on the carpet and then hard floor, and they seemed comfortable for a very narrow heeled sandal, but less comfortable or secure than other heeled shoes I've tried with wider heel bases.

My ankles couldn't deal with the balancing on a pin part, even if it was a very carefully designed pin. It might be that I'm just not used to heels that aren't sturdier and don't know how to walk in them especially over uneven ground.

I second the Ocalas. I have wide, fussy feet and I purchased a pair in wide. Wore them from 9:30 to almost 5 yesterday for the meetup and hours of shopping with the group!

1. Camper Agatha Booties
I cannot do a long trek in these (I discovered that on Friday, hah!) but it's perfect for commuting and wearing around work and a bit of walking around for errands. The perfect work heeled bootie for my arthritic feet (1.75 heel height with a 0.25 inch platform)

2. Rockport Seven to 7 low collection
This is about 2.75 inch of heel and a 0.5 inch hidden platform. I have the tall boot and the black pumps. I wear these when I absolutely have to wear a heel. I can wear this to work (which I do once a month) but I avoid wearing this daily due to my arthritis.

3. Aravon Mila and Madison:
A bit too high for me but still more comfy than most heels out there. I wore the Milas all day for a wedding and my feet did not ache at all.

I have two pairs of aerosoles that are over 5 years old. I wore them when I lived in Boston, walked, stood on T, walked some more and they would last me all day long and then some, sometimes. They were about 3" height, but the heel was a about 1x1 stacked heel which I think was imperative to their comfort. I still love the comfort of aerosoles and try to buy them. They were never the sexiest, but they did have a few styles that were more on trend (and I do still wear mine) just haven't found anything recently. Worth a look, perhaps.
Totally going to follow up on lyn*'s rec, myself!

I've found the SE Okala to be very comfortable. I can wear them longer than many of my flat shoes. Also, anything by Gentle Souls. Pricey, but sometimes 6pm.com has them for a good price. Tsubo also makes a comfortable shoe...also check 6pm.com. Oh, and I second the Aquatalia suggestion. Amazingly comfortable even in a higher heel. One more thing..whatever you find, check on Amazon. They sometimes have great prices on shoes.

I find my Aquatalia heeled booties and wedges to be super comfortable and have walked miles in them (and I have fussy feet). Most have a 3 inch heel, but with a 1/2 inch platform so they feel more like 2 1/2 inches. My heeled booties are very similar to the Riley bootie that is currently on NAS and I wear them with jeans, skirts, dresses and pants.

Cole Haan Air Tali wedges are really comfy. Nice, soft leather and feels like a flat. I've worn them to walk a lot and for a conference where I was standing on hard floors all day.

The most comfortable heels I've ever tried are these Earthies mary-jane wedges: http://www.planetshoes.com/ite.....vona/20722 They look a little more 'comfort shoe' in the pictures than in real life where they fit fairly sleekly, and come in black, cognac, and wine/burgundy.

I wear them with cropped or skinny jeans as well as skirts and they add height. I've worn them walking extensively for 6+ hours and they are very stable and fit like someone took a silicone mold of my foot and created a shoe out of it (I have somewhat low volume feet). The velcro closure also makes for a perfectly secure shoe.

I like about 1 1/2 to 2 inches with a sturdy block, stacked or wedge heel. It is easier in a boot or bootie because the foot is contained but I have pumps and sandals that meet that recommendation.
Natural leather is a must for me too.....

I wear Naturalizer Lennoxes almost exclusively at work (aside from my Le Chateau pumps) - and they have served me very well. I am on my feet for many hours during a day; and I slip in a gel pad and I can stand for hours.

I think the record is six hours standing during surgery in a pair of Lennoxes. I've worn through about four pairs now, and I always have a spare pare in the house. They also come in wide and narrow widths.

What are your favorite "walkable" heels? My criteria: stays on feet, 2.5 inches tall or less, can comfortably walk or stand for 20 minutes at a time. No blisters. Can be worn in a business casual setting with skirts or pants. I'm open to booties, boots, pumps or other ideas. Would love your suggestions. Thanks!
