Fun post, Carla. And an interesting and amusing side of your personality. I hope you will show us pictures of your new wackadoodle items.

I don't think I own any items which fit that description. I do have statement and bold pieces, but none wackadoodle items. I may have had some earlier in my life--including some exotic clothing items bought in other countries, but I rarely wore them after I came home, so I donated them. I want the things I own to be versatile for my lifestyle.

Good point about bold vs wacky, Angie. I don’t really do “wacky” either — it just doesn’t feel right on me. I feel too obtrusive or silly. But I do love a bold piece.

However, once again, I feel like “bold” and “wacky” are in the eyes of the beholder. I got a weird backhanded compliment (along the lines of “I would never be brave enough to wear that!”) in TX a few years ago because I was wearing a snake print sweatshirt. Really not that weird, but to a certain audience, clearly I seemed a little wacky!

Sorry about your tiara, Carla. Hope you find another.

There is nothing wacky in my wardrobe. Lots of bright statements - a few pieces with Yorkies on them - but nothing wacky. I'm not a quirky person, and it's reflected my style.

The Xmas pullover is simply very bold. Not wacky.

What a good question! I am sorry about your loss regarding your tiara. It was most probably a difficult decision but you didn't hesitate to give it away in order to help a fund raising, which is in itself very commendable. It's certainly a very noble way to end this love relationship.

For the moment, I am going through a phase of self affirmation, and my wakadoodle is a black tee-shirt featuring a skull and the word Megabitch. Now as I am a teacher to young adults, and now happens to be exam time. So the tee-shirt waits in my drawer. For the moment. ;)

I have some statement pieces but nothing that comes close to wackadoodle. At least I don't think I do. I certainly like unusual pieces but I am dressing more conservatively these days. I have a faux fur wrap from 2004. I would call that statement. I will pull it out soon. I also have a handbag with dogs on it. (Warning: Do not go to the Vet's office with this bag!!! The Vet will try to buy it from me.)

My faux fur is definitely a statement but still a touch too conservative.

I think you should go for it when you find something that sings out to you and calls your name...

I have a few statement pieces and others may think they are 'whackadoodle' but to me they are just a bit of fun. Accessories and t-shirts seem to be easier for me to incorporate into my regular wear. I can't see me wearing a tiara, although I love wearing statement necklaces and chokers.

My favourite item is my monster bag, but really it is just a regular tote and very practical. I also like my Hello Kitty t-shirt and tend to wear it with a tougher support act so that it does not look like I am trying to be 8 years old again.

Janet, yes the market was on Frenchmen Street. They said it was the first time it opened. I was there in the end of September. Googling showed two different markets, the original was evicted I guess, and honestly I can't remember which one I visited.
La Pedestrienne, there were two typewriter poets. One in his 50-60's, he was talking to someone who appeared to be local. The other was 20-30's and unoccupied. So I approached him. I can't remember his name, but he looked stereotypical hipster. Anyways I asked for a poem about my father & taking care of him. It was good & I even sniffled a bit reading it.
Sorry to derail the thread.

Oh as far as my most recent whackadoodle purchase. A large silver wire tyrannosaur rex necklace, it's about 3-4" ( 7.5-10 cm) wide
It was at a night market featuring local artists in New Orleans. I also bought a poem from a guy with a manual typewriter who was composing on the spot

Oh yes! I know exactly what you mean. After looking at my now decidedly black, white and blue wardrobe I too missed some fun stuff. Red hat wearer and long time miffy fan that I am. And that's what I found today.

YES! It is the feeling of irrational joy that comes with such an item or garment. You have articulated it it perfectly approprio. My red cons come close.. And I DO mean wackadoodle in a good way.

What Diana and Shevia said. Many of the oversized garments, some of the 80s vintage, statement footwear...the list goes on. Yes, you could say it's my jam, but it's one way to look interesting and be fashion-proof.

The one item in my wardrobe I'd consider truly ridiculous are the Tokyo Bopper flatform sneakers. Pure kawaii. They fill me with irrational joy and make me feel like a cartoon character.

I like Anna's suggestions for you. You could also experiment with high concept sportswear (I'm thinking Stella McCartney or Gucci-like) and I could see you in a pair of discoball sneakers. You should definitely get another tiara.

Well, one person’s whackadoodle is another person’s commonplace, so who am I to say what IS whackadoodle? ;-)

I guess it’s a statement piece that, for the wearer, is just a little more “out there” than their usual.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is this vest. I don’t know if other people see it as whackadoodle or not. I don’t but I can understand if it’s perceived that way by others. It’s definitley the kind of thing that requires me to be in the right mood to wear it, and the right occasion. It’s not for everyday but it’s a lot of fun when I am in the mood to wear it. If that qualifies as whackadoodle, sign me up. :-)

I think accessories are the easiest way to add something like this — jewelry, a fun statement bag, etc.

Do my shot-up clothes count? I regularly wear garments that I've let the guys use for target practice.
I am getting the lunch lady hat (find) in brown for Christmas, it's definitely unique in a crafty sort of way.
I also havery a Keychain collection that goes everywhere with me, clipped to the outside of my purse by a giraffe print carabiner

Etsy is great for unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. It's where I got the lunch lady hat, and I regularlysee really cool stuff there, for all types of style personas/tastes, often at a very fair price

I wear big hats and would wear the red hat in an instant. I have admired Shrimps faux fur for a while, although I have not found anything similar for myself. There are other things mentioned here that I would not wear - not because I don't like them but they are not me. So I think I am trying to say one woman's unwearable eccentric is another woman's jam and the key is finding the piece/s that speak to you.
Or, in short, I own and wear selectively.

Annagybe-I think you are on the right track. A one of a kind artisan item, starting designer, or vintage? I do love the red hat though!

Joy-you must do red for the holidays.

Diana-EXACTLY! All your items are unusual but wearable. #3 is just so fashionable, and the bespoke wedding hat is something that you should keep forever.

Srah-scarves are clever like that - kind of like wearing red knickers under black clothes!

Ouch! Fashion intern, a comment like that is the kiss of death unless your love for the item transcends the unwanted opinion.

My long tassel earrings. See Find below. I would like a bright red pair for the holidays. They hang nearly to my shoulders.
