Cjh my winter wardrobe is basically red and black. Hockey team colours, I'm pathetic...

Thanks ladies, you're right Joy, I think for the wedding a little alteration is in order. We'll see what the tailor says when I get back.

I've started actually putting things in the suitecase so we'll see how much room I have for shoes. I totally agree that the open toe sling backs look better but the other ones are way more comfortable and I'll wear them to two other functions with the black pencil skirt.

Thanks so much for the support. A dress is so totally different on me than cords and a turtleneck that it's hard to really see what it looks like on me even with pictures.

Wow, gorgeous dress, Freckles! You are in business for these events! I like the sounds of your plan. Agree with others that you might want to consider altering to sleeveless for the October wedding, but you have time to think that over, no rush—in the meantime the dress gives you more options for this trip as well. Have a wonderful time!

Looks like we are broad shouldered sisters, and sometimes the cap sleeve just doesnt work that wel for the inverted triangle. I love the color and shape of this dress and it seems to fit you quite nicely. A little alternation tomthe cap sleeve and you are in business!

YAY !!!!! Freckles, problem solved !!!!!!

I like the other ladies' ideas of wearing the dress to both events. I think that they are right in that you could dress it up or down. The bag alone that you wear with it could make a difference.

And I also love Joy's idea of make the dress more sleeveless and less cap sleeve.
Go and have a GREAT time !!!

Freckles I think you have it nailed. Your suggestion above sounds perfect. I love the new dress and I like the sling backs with it, they are really elegant and work well with the shape of the dress. I think the sandals are too casual for the dress. Gorgeous.

I like your latest thinking. You look fabulous in dresses and cjh has a good idea to wear your new one to both anniversary and wedding. I think the shoulders look fine, but if they continue to bother you, you might have them altered to make the dress sleeveless for the wedding. The sleeve extension on the shoulder is making your shoulders look broader, but it also gives you a lovely hourglassy shape.

I LOVE the new red dress. PERFECT color on you, which was already decided when you got the beautiful red flowered blouse. Maybe your go-to color now? Wouldn't hurt!! And it fits like it was made for you.

I like the open toed sandals - a little more dressy. Honestly, I would wear the dress to both the anniversary and the wedding. You look wonderful! and so happy, too.

Well more nothing brought home shopping and no picture takers yet. Tried rolling the pants legs but they look all wrong to me...

Isabel I really appreciate the tweak to the sale for online gap but the shipping takes more days than I have. The styles look similar to ones I tried on today that just were so uncomfortable too so I will pretend they didn't work.

Yes Suz in Toronto so weather and humidity will be a factor. Thanks for reminding me that yes I am figuring out one faux pas at a time... I got a compliment while trying on clothes today on my black t with the white flower so I will try to make that work.

I find that I like the mauve cardigan when it has the black tank underneath with the purple shoes but now I cannot find the black tank that was recently washed. Figures, trying to do too much in too little time.

I hear you re ppl Angie.

All the shoes have about a two inch heel even though they don't look it in pics.

Claire I'm not a denim person and although the jacket is a great idea it would be way too hot.

Still tearing closet and accessories apart.

Do we hate the dress? Do we hate the dress for the 25th and like it for wedding?

Thinking
1. Dinner = black pencil skirt, black tank, purple cardigan (depending on weather may use matching tank and pencil skirt although it got nayed before)
2. 25th garden anniversay = new dress?
3. Meet the groom = pencil skirt and flowered blouse

What do you guys think?

Hi Freckles !!

The color is great on you! I agree that there seems to be something off with the shoulders from behind - the front looks good to me. I prefer the open toe shoe, btw.

Okay so I went out to Jones to look for pants/pencil skirt...

Found none.

But...

I did find a dress!

Now, this dress is most likely too fancy for friends garden 50th anniv party but would be great for niece's wedding in October.

I'm not keen on the shoulders but my husband loves the dress.

What say you?

Different shoes on too... Which ones?

I would totally wear those red (flats?) shoes with the pencil skirt to give it another look. Also, they might look cute with the too short pants it you cuff them once or twice.

You don't need to get another black skirt in a casual fabric and pack them both. Just dress down the crepe one with a T-shirt, denim jacket and red flats. Pop the collar, add some 'tude and you're good to go!

Thank you so much ladies and Angie!

I've been reworking the pieces like you suggested and wow, you are so right! Nobody home to take pic right now.

I don't really like the t-shirt in 3 with the pencil skirt. Great in theory but crepe skirt and t plus shoes looks just a bit too um not sure what for meet groom party in a bbq setting. Different shoes or a more casual cotton pencil skirt would totally make it work though!

I've convinced dh to take me over to Jones NY outlet tomorrow so will look for pants or a black pencil skirt in a more casual/summery fabric. He won't take me to where the Gap and Le Chateau are so I will just have to check out Jones... Forget Tweed and Hickory because I am not in millionaire status right now.

Mom was over this morn and brought me some things to bring to her sisters. Aaack that suitecase is smaller by the minute.

I am sure more meetings/dinners will occur but the slightly too short navy pants and t-shirts should work for those.

Please do not ignore PPL's :(

A pair of black straight leg trousers at the correct length from the Gap will solve your problem. And it sounds like those jeans might need to go. Bagging cramps our style.

Deborah has given you great advice! Is your wedding in Toronto, Freckles? (Sorry, I have forgotten). If so, the weather is unlikely to get so cold that you will need pants. I love Rae's suggestion of the red with the purple, too.

I know the skirt probably feels "dressy" but with the different tops it will give a very different feel. Can you shoot some pics for us of those options? You could always throw in the black pants if you have room; you are going to look so stunning that people will be focusing on your face, not your bottoms. The way I see it at this point in my own beginning style journey, I am conquering one faux pas at a time! So if I don't always have PPL at least I will be pulled together elsewhere. Know what I am saying? Just consider...you are going to look head and shoulders above what you might have looked, pre-YLF!

I agree that the skirt would solve the pant length problem, since they are not pants. The pants also look good with the red shoes - would you be open to wearing the red shoes with 2 as well as 3? I always like red with purple....

Freckles just a thought. I love Outfit 1 for the 50th. Could you wear the cardigan in #2 over a plain black top with the skirt in 1? And then the top in #3 over the skirt. You could use the black skirt as your base garment and then dress it up or down as need be for the various events. You could possibly get a way with only taking two pairs of shoes (the red and the black), a variety of tops and perhaps one or two cardigans in case of weather changes (sorry I am not sure where you are going and the weather there). I just have to say again, #1 is fabulous you look stunning. If you have room throw in a pair of black pants too.

Re the too short black pants... I haven't seem them and am wondering could they be rolled up at all?

Thanks ladies.

My black jeans are the only pair of pants that aren't way too short. Went shopping for pants/skirts/dresses but found nothing.

Pic one = outfit for 50th anniv garden party
Pic two = with too short pants with clogs outfit for dinner
Pic three = outfit for welcome to the family of cousin's groom, casual backyard bbq, maybe using black jeans and red shoes but prefer too short pantsand clogs due to carry on baggage

My gf says my navy everyday pants are a tad short but according to a dressmaker would be fine since they hit the footbed of shoe. I have no dressier tops to wear with the navy though.

Freckles, I apologize that I missed it if you had an earlier thread on this topic - do you have a pair of jeans that will work better than your black jeans, which sound like they don't fit very well over time, so that you could wear something you're comfortable with for the multiple outfits requiring pants? Maybe a straight leg or subtly bootcut pair of dark denim jeans? Or perhaps opt for a simple dress that you can change up with accessories (necklaces/scarves/jackets) for different events - that way, the pants length would not be an issue.

So I've been working on this travel capsule for weeks now and not getting anywhere.

More functions have suddenly abounded now that people know we'll be in town other than the fiftieth anniv party. If I were to bring every outfit I want to wear that would mean six pairs of shoes for five days and we are only doing carry on bags so that is just impossible.

I am thinking of just ignoring non ppl and maybe pairing one favourite pair that are way too short with black socks and clogs to help mask it.

If I did this one pair of pants could work for three different functions instead of my black jeans which can only be worn for a couple of hours before they bag and sag and fall off.

What say you?
