Wow! I thought I would end up with one answer and that would be that!

I am thrilled to know that I can wear flats but dressy. As everyone is telling me...it is about the contrast. I cans see that sneakers probably would not work. Thanks for suggesting showing some of my leg (ankle)

I do own a pair of silver loafer flats but all the great ideas here sound like I should spring for some new shoes (especially if I make the pants myself.) LOL!

Thanks to all the pros who post pictures. It is helpful!

I agree that a flash of skin looks better either a sandal or a ballet/pointed flat/slip on sneaker rather than converse/boots etc..

I have a pair and they look best with heels (I am hourglass, tall, muscular thighs!) and can also wear them with sandals, jewelled thongs. On me they look wrong with a trendy sneaker, they look like I should be at the gym.

I wear mine with my patent black Brikies all the time. I think it is more the overall look and intent of the outfit than the shoes specifically. The only shoes I would really avoid would be standard trainers/sneakers.

Agree with others that heels are not required. In addition to the other suggestions, I have worn my silk track pants with smoking slippers and dressy, sleek oxfords. Great pattern!

Yes, flats would work, make sure though there is some skin between the pant leg bottom and the shoe to add structure so it doesn't look sloppy.

Well, I wear mine with flats. I wear loafers, slipper flats, and pointy-toe flats. Otherwise I could not use them for day-wear. I have worn heels for evenings out, for fun, but not always, since flats are just plain more comfortable even for date night. I agree with top suggestions--I tend to use silky dressy top including a drapey, slightly dressy version of T, so then usually include a necklace. My flats aren't super-dressy but do skew more refined, including patent or pattern.
Not sure whether that ticks all the fashion boxes, but it works for me.

I'll just add gladiator sandals to the list, especially if you can push up the cuff of the pants to wear them at a 'cropped' length from time to time.

I like them with flat sandals. To my eye it's better than closed toe flats. Just make sure the pants are short enough for the flats and don't pool at the ankle so much.

I've worn mine with my silver Birkie like sandals. I think a modern shoe is important, to keep it from looking like you're actually wearing pants from the gym, or from your 90's closet of soft pants! When I want a little lift, but need to walk a lot, I wear my Crocs platform wedges -- the Crocs footbed makes for a really cushy ride and the platform means my foot isn't bend at an odd angle.

I love the way they are styled in the Vogue pattern pic . To me, track pants are super versatile: pushed up, worn down, with heels, wedges, sneakers, flats - and with all sorts of tops. I'd love to see the finished product when you are ready to post!

I think they definitely can work with dressy flats, but I would also wear them with slip on sneakers and something interesting up top -- button-down shirt with a cropped sweater, flowy silk hi-low, anything that is definitely not workout wear. This still achieves the contrast Rute is talking about, but the burden is on the top to push the contrast, if you know what I mean -- and the sneaker is the sleek kind, not the athletic kind, which also helps.

I just bought some skinny sweatpants (which really push the workout wear button), and I plan to wear these with black slip on sneakers and a tailored top, maybe even a blazer. If I can ever afford my dream silver loafers I will wear them with those too.

I like the flats as pictured so I think they work. To keep the vibe less like workout wear, I'd avoid sneakers for sure and wear a slightly dressy top as opposed to a simple tee. Or wear the simple tee and add some fun jewelry. I think the devil is in the details!

I like the track pant silhouette. I would like to make these: http://voguepatterns.mccall.co.....age_id=264

However, I only see these pants paired with heels. I don't do heels. Period! Are these still an option for me? ( I am tall and thin.)

Suggestions?
