I'm with you but my color foe is gray. It really was not until I grouped nearly all my clothes by color (mixing seasons) that I noticed how much black and gray I have.

My shopping list now includes only color - especially colored bottoms.

Mander good observation! I agree with the idea of hanging them together to see which get worn the most. We'll hold you to it if you post any black K/R tops On the orange silk blouse, the easiest pairing would be with any denim bottoms (flared, skinny, straight) and a long pendant. It'll also look great with your green pieces. Can't wait to see how you style it!

I am so with you on this one and have vowed something similar. Too bad black tops seem to be such workhorses for a winter wardrobe.

Can't wait to see the orange blouse styled.

I agree with Meredith about hanging them together. Maybe you could turn the hangers the wrong way to monitor which ones are actually being worn. You could cull some and then start a one in, one out black top rule. I'm really trying to avoid more black items too, but somehow managed to buy 3 pairs of black shoes, right as we're coming into summer. (?) Oh well.

I find black items demand regular vetting because they tire. It's a product of the dye leaching and the high visibility of any pilling or rubbing. So I'm not surprised you went out and bought new black items. Maybe you need to part with those you describe as being "a little off"?

Mander,
It is interesting how we tend to repeat items we like. It's great that you are using a spreadsheet to sort of put it into perspective and yes it sounds like you have a lot of black. I had mostly dark neutrals when I joined but I am really trying to add color. Now I also need to add pattern because except for one polka dot shirt and some striped tops I have no other patterns in tops at all and have been heavily relying on scarves to do some of the heavy lifting till the situation is remedied. I find hanging things in my closet by item type and then by color does help me see where I may have too much or little of a good thing.

You and me both, except replace black with white + subtle strips. I look forward to watching you for inspiration

I have been on a bit of a buying frenzy, looking for black tops to go with my skirt collection. Although I have tons of black items, most of them are a little off in one way or another, so I have acquired several new ones. Most of them are spring/summer appropriate as well, which I didn't really have before.

However, I've updated my little spreadsheet and now I have at least 20 tops that are predominantly black, of which 13 are solid black. No more! I need to introduce a bit more color into my wardrobe!

On the plus side, I did get an orange silk blouse last week. I still haven't figured out how to wear it, though.
