Traci on "Virtual window shopping"

I consulted with the in house fashion consultant, aka 18 year old daughter. She completely balked at the price of the Eileen Fisher. Her complaint was it is not a special enough dress for the price tag. I argued that it would be the kind of dress I'd wear a ton. She agreed with that. But then she made a point about the fabrication. I've been very tactile lately and craving clothes that just plain feel good to touch. I don't think the EF dress would have that feeling. I held off today, but the sale goes through tomorrow, so I may still cave and try it.

I put in my order for the etsy dress. Fingers crossed.

Traci -- I agree wholeheartedly with what you just said: "I see the two dresses in different roles. The EF would be an everyday workhorse. The etsy dress would be for more special days." The two dresses have entirely different vibes and you would not be duplicating if both work out for you. This reminds me of Deborah's recent thread with pics of her multiple black dresses. Each one was so lovely and unique -- and each fit her personal style so well. I say -- order both and see how they fit and work with the rest of your wardrobe. Both are so fab!

This is definitely a brain vs heart situation. And before you say go with your heart always, know that my heart is fickle and my brain has learned to be careful about trusting her for long term decisions.

I may order both because I see the two dresses in different roles. The EF would be an everyday workhorse. The etsy dress would be for more special days.

In the interest of collecting all the data, I've messaged the etsy store owner just to make sure that she can accomodate my size. It looks like they used to work to Asian sizing, but at some point switched to custom sizing. I just want to make sure my US 12 is even an option before I become too enamored.

I hear what you're saying about the EF piece. It does look very versatile, and not at all overpriced.

I like them both but prefer the etsy dress. I think it's more interesting. What's the shop? I'd like to check it out. Of course with the EF one you get to try it on and send it back if you don't like it. That's a big advantage.

The blue and gray are both really nice colors too. One mark against it for me is their fit profile says it's not a good fit. They say the regular medium would be too small in the bust and the petite large would be too big in the bust. I'm leaning towards PL if I try it.

I've had my eye on this Eileen Fisher dress for a while now. I find the full price kind of absurd, and I'm frankly not really excited about the sale price either, but it's more tolerable. I have a cheap, old navy dress that is cut very similarly, that I really like. It's versatile, I can wear it as a dress, tunic or shirt. On the one I already have the dress narrows at the hemline, so it can almost function like a banded bottom top if I pull it up to my hips. This dress is currently $133 on sale.

Then today I stumbled across this etsy site. It's kind of a too good to be true situation. The clothes are made to order based on your measurements and the reviews are pretty outstanding. I love the drape and shape of the dress, but it wouldn't be as versatile. I'd probably wear it over skinny jeans sometimes, but other than that it would just be a dress that's a dress. I'm not certain the sleeves would allow for most toppers to work. This dress is $73, and made of a tencel cotton blend knit.

The first dress is much more of a known quantity. I know the brand, have an idea of the fit and all that. But the second dress is so lovely!
And yes, I'm technically on a shopping freeze, but it's just for fun, nobody dies if I break it.
