Thanks everyone! I will try to get photos of this styled. And perhaps those of you who said I should pair it with other pieces for my dog shows are right - it might be too much with the matching skirt (though I'll get a pic for you, Natalie). I do have a couple of Halogen pencil skirts that have worked *perfectly* for my shows, so that's a good match, I think.

I'll try it out with jeans too! I don't have a lot of opportunity for smart casual but I'll make it a priority. Thank you so much for all of your feedback!

Christieanne, yes, this is a 40's piece. Not really sure on the precise date but it certainly has some military influence. The "bling" is much more sparkly in person too.

Beautiful! I vote keep, and mix and match with other items for a more modern effect. Do you have "bottoms" that would pair with it?

Love this piece - it's interesting in a good way and it looks especially fab with the animal print belt. It would look great with white jeans in particular.

Beautiful!! Now let's see you style it. Vildy may be right that it will be a bit much with a matching skirt, but I'm not 100% sure - I think it COULD work with the right shape skirt and accessories. Esp. for your shows, when you really do want a slightly "costume" effect (without being true costume and still being comfortable and current).

I don't think it would look right with a matching skirt of any shape in our modern era.
You might look like you got lost on the way to the USO (or equivalent).
But on its own, it's a wonderful vintage piece.

I am not sure how I would feel about this styled with the matching skirt but on it's own with jeans and a vintage rock tee it would be perfection.

I also agree about steaming the pleats before thinking about an alteration.

I really like the unusual neckline and the 3/4 sleeves.
The colour is lovely and I think the jacket would stand on its own better than with the matching skirt.

I love it! It is definitely vintage and in a good way. I think it will depend on how you style it but if you want to wear something unique and retro, this is a great piece. Not sure on the pleating - I think it is just part of the jacket. Is it 40's? They did the pleats after the war I think and women were excited to have a little extra fabric in their clothes.
Steam it and see how you feel before altering I think. Can't wait to see how you work it into an outfit.

Hi ladies. I posted about this puppy on Una's thread but thought I'd put it here as these convos have me a little concerned!

I own several vintage suits which I have slowly been digging out of storage. I have decided that most of them will be donated. They do not fit me properly and I think look quite frumpy. There is one exception however. My mind's eye remembered this jacket a little differently; it is more forest than emerald green and does actually fit me better than I'd recalled. The skirt is very dated feeling (below the knee A-line without being full) and in certain need of modification. But what about the jacket. Clearly I would not wear it with this awful salmon tshirt beneath. But I needed to get photos. ;-)

I marked two areas that pleated on the jacket which I think either need to be taken in or possibly just pressed.

Thoughts? Is this a keeper or another donate?
