Just read your reply on true vintage, Shannon... hehehe. So Zara it is then. They hv a model very similar to the #3 kimono you've posted, don't they?

Asos Marketplace has a retro tag and I've seen some kimonos under it. Take a look, maybe you find some true vintage that strikes you. Good luck!

Well ladies - this is where I eat crow!

As much as I love vintage, including vintage kimonos, I think they won't have a modern feel to them no matter how modern the rest of the styling is. I saw a couple last night in a local vintage shop and they unfortunately do resemble bath robes.

So I believe the newer incarnations at Zara are the better option (hey Denise - you were right!).

Now I just need to decide if I want to move forward and order one or pass on what I think could be a fleeting trend.

Thank you all so much for your honest and thoughtful replies.

3 was my favorite. I love vintage, but I have a vintage kimono, and everytime I wear it seams pop open and I fret. It's very delicate silk with a silk organza lining. I'm considering one of the zara ones for peace of mind.

I think Suz is right also, and looking locally is your best next step. There is nothing like trying it on right then and there, feeling the fabric, checking the condition, etc. And if you find something great, it will be much cheaper than anything on Etsy.

Not vintage, and almost everything I looked at had crazy long fringe. But there are some beautiful pieces here. Most come across as more gypsy or Spanish to me, so this may be too far from where we started out.

Before you pull the trigger on the 70's vintage jacket, take a look at this one.

http://www.etsy.com/listing/15.....;ga_page=6

A 1920's version. Not as brightly colored or reversible, but very much like the 70's one. I can't decide if I like it better, necessarily.

Did you look on Ebay, too? Or in your neighbourhood vintage stores? Methinks we are on the cusp of this trend and most Winnipeggers will not yet have caught on. There may be bargains to be had.

Shannon, I loved the kimono on #3, one of the best I saw even comparing with the Zara ones. And I do like the print on the blue one I am just not sure about the knot in the front.
Is #2 too expensive? Maybe it would work if the knot hit at the right place and if not Wonder Woman might take the extra fabric.

Is that first one reversible? I like it, personally. And if the ties don't bother you, I say leave them long.

If the vintage one is a good bit more expensive than the Zara one, then I would be inclined to really think about which one I wanted. But if the prices are similar, I would personally be happier with a vintage piece that is more unique.

I vote pass and go for the ones available at Zara. That way you can find one that hangs right on you (right length and fabric) and return if it doesn't work. I don't think Etsy has returnable merchandise, but if I'm wrong, go for one from Etsy and try it out.
