Awww, bummer - I really love this coat. The sleeves fit you too - that's my issue with coat shopping. Need more petite friendly coats, designers!

JAileen, I just won't buy anything that needs to be tailored anymore, unless they throw in the tailoring and do it before I leave the shop, and ship it to me when the tailoring is done. I've learned my lesson the hard way. I just don't have a "trusted tailor" nor time to visit one!

With this coat there's the leather trim, so to my eye (and personal sewing experience) that could be tricky. Maybe okay if I was willing to sacrifice the leather trim, in the event of a tailoring mishap.

I think it's risky to alter something like that. Having said that, I had a vintage Pendleton 49er jacket with a ridiculously large collar, and I deconstructed it, and reduced the collar size, by myself. I had never done anything like that before, and it turned out great. I had sewed a lot as a kid, and the construction was very familiar to me. I ended up giving it away because the color scheme didn't work for me. Maybe take the coat to a trusted tailor and see what she says.

I see now that this model had it tied up high, practically over the ends of the collar at the waist line. I attempted to belt it that way myself, but then thought "oh no it's not meant to go that high."

However more importantly, it was just too much collar for my upper body... and I am chesty, inverted triangle. Just a petite one.

I honestly contemplated how hard would it be to have a tailor reduce the collar down about an inch or two ... it might be doable, but I have a new rule "no major alterations... preferably no alterations at all." Because I am really lousy about having alterations done.

I tried it on at Bloomie's and they do offer free alterations. Maybe I should see if it's possible.... or just keep hunting.

I hate coat hunting. Hardest item for me to find.

Yep, this is exactly what I was lamenting about on Janet's post earlier today. I think big collars and lapels are coming back, and it's not a good look for short waisted and generally short people!

Bummer about the coat. The colors are gorgeous and it looks so cozy!

Tried this coat on today:

http://www.vince.com/drape-fro.....=Concord%2...

If only it had fit me. This coat would totally fit in with the capsule I'm creating right now. It's gorgeous, the color on me was fantastic. Yummy fabric / comfortable. And just the right weight I need for my travels. The idea was dead on - shape, everything. Yes, even the belt (if moved up a bit).

But alas... I think the collar was too big for my frame. :-(

I tried the XS on, rushed home to see if there was an XXS, or even XXXS ... it is offered in XXS but now I'm dubious because seeing it on the 5'11 model, maybe I've lost my marbles. The sleeves were the right length. The hem was too. It's just the collar on a 5'0 person... probably too much.

*cries*
