Oh gosh, you ladies are so kind, and I am so grateful for your reassurance and advice. Yesterday every time I caught my reflection in the bathroom mirror I felt a little pain, but now I am feeling more like I can have fun with the differentness and figure it out until it grows out a little.

Taylor, yes it is the heavy blunt fringe that is throwing me. I was thinking actually in the last hairstyle I remember on you it seems you do have some bangs and then also shorter hairs going up and to the back, so maybe I can try to imitate that. I think you sometimes use a headband? I like the length too :)

Rae and co. yes this is fresh from the hairdresser--I slept on it once, but it still looks pretty fresh from the chair. Actually this is almost exactly the cut of my hairdresser's hair, although hers is even more dramatic with a shorter and blunter fringe. She always has an artistic do though.

Sammie, yes it is kind of nerd-chic, isn't it.

Claire, thanks for noticing my eyebrows. Your comment made me smile because the first thing I did yesterday was make a maintenance appointment ASAP because it wouldn't do to let them go scraggly with this cut! I think the cut still goes with my style. My face just looks surprising to me. I think I like to hide under more hair and now I feel exposed and also like the cut draws attention to me, which also makes me uncomfortable.

Surprisingly hubby, who usually hates change, seems to really like it.

I will try to get back to some WIWs, and we can see how it goes.

That is a very current haircut. I feel like the bangs are drawing all of the attention to your beautifully shaped eyebrows which I had never noticed before. I understand what you mean about the square-ish shape, and it totally works on you because of your super-feminine features. While it's not a super short cut, I could see a male rocker wearing it, so I think that's what you mean about a boyish vibe. Does it make your over-all style look different, as in your clothes? Does it add a bit of edge or change the vibe? I don't think anything new ever feels like "us" right away when it's still new, but I'll be interested to see how you feel in a week or two. Keep us posted! FWIW, I think you look fab!

I'm with Kellygirl and think you'd look fabulous in any hairstyle. The bangs do frame your face beautifully, but as Taylor said, if they seem too full, you can do your own styling and lighten up the weight of the bangs in front. MNsara is right, too, in that we feel better when we do our own styling, so play with it and see how you feel by the end of the week.

I actually like it! It is definitely less romantic than your old one and I don't know if it is good or bad thing for you. You should give yourself some time to adjust and play with it a bit - just listen to Taylor!

I like the length:)
I think the heavy bang is throwing you a bit...try less on your face/forhead and push the rest back a bit. A softer more textured bang/fringe. Product will help as well as a bit of curl or blowing it back.
You are still lovely Scarlet !!

I was expecting something else when you said 'boyish and ugly-chic', but you are so pretty and feminine that you beautify any style! This style too :-)

I think the advice about waiting until you've st yled it yourself is crucial! More often than not, I'm bugged by how the stylist actually styled my hair and I try to reserve judgement until I've done it myself

Scarlet, I'd also like a little bit more texture in the bangs (a little messiness). That may happen after the shock to your hair. My hair always takes a few days to *settle* from the cut. It's a fun and cute cut! And it highlights your beautiful face!

Honestly, you are so pretty that you could wear your hair any way and still look gorgeous. I think it's cute and different. It looks like a modified shag and I want to run my fingers through it to tussle it up a bit. I'd like more texture in the bangs but aside from that it looks very hip. I love your attitude--hair grows. I've had more than my share of bad haircuts and managed to live through them! Have fun with it, Scarlet!

Not a fashion victim at all! You may be in that initial period of "hair shock" right now. As Rae says, it'll relax after a day or two (and a few washings) and you may feel more comfortable. (You still look great, even if you don't prefer it this way.)

Scarlet, is this fresh from the styling chair? The bangs may relax and soften with time, after the hair gets over the "shock." Back when I used to go to salons, they always used to over-style my bangs, too, leaving me in tears until I washed my hair and dried it myself.

If that still doesn't help... bangs grow out fast. :T *hugs*

Hmm...I think I know what you mean, Scarlet! The good news is you can make it work until it grows a bit. I don't think it looks ultra boyish, but just a little heavy in the bangs, while the sides are really layered. That could be why you're hesitant to love it. I'm sure others think it looks fine - but your opinion is the most important one, natch! You can play around with pomade or styling mousse to make it look more piece-y while it grows out. And like anyone who's had a haircut they weren't 100% in love with - hats, headbands, headscarf. I don't think you need to worry too much, though!

I think it looks good. Bangs are all about how you style it. Did you try putting your hair up in the back loosely? It makes the bangs softer and makes the style pop.

I think it's fun and different.

If you wanted to soften it a bit, you could cut in some intermediate layers in between the bangs and where your layers start. The gap between where your bangs end and where the layers come in is what gives it that edge.

I was really overdue and finally got in yesterday evening to my stylist. To be fair, she clearly explained how she would cut my hair, but somehow I was in denial and agreed to it, thinking she would do the same as usual. What can I say? I had a lot on my mind at the time unrelated to hair, like work deadlines and such.
I feel like Sponge Bob Square Head. It feels a little boyish to me somehow. Reflecting on it, I think this is a trendy cut where I am currently living, sported by many young and trendy people, as I have noticed in the last 12 hours. I am not too convinced it suits me though. I am used to something softer and less dramatic. I know it looks very different as all heads snapped to attention at work today when I walked by. Sometimes I feel like it looks kind of cute, sometimes it feels a little boyish and ugly-chic. I don't know. Is it fun and different or just trendy and unflattering? (Or your interpretation.) You can be honest. I know it will grow. Sorry the blob on my forehead in photo 2 is a dirty mirror. How do they get dirty like that??
