Last February, about 1.5 years on my own and 6 months with YLF I always experiment and I still make mistakes, but mistakes are absolutely worth making so don't be afraid to make them! We change, styles change. It's inevitable! It's usually noticeable if you've got some confidence in your abilities, but hey a bit of "fake it 'til you make it" can help too. I think most of the time I know when things are great and when they are not (the ones in between I can't always tell); but of course there are always outfits _I_ thought were great that are lukewarmly received and those that _I_ thought weren't great that get really positive reception. I cannot predict "Killers", I take them as a sweet surprise :D

EDIT: Have to add that what I said above applies to styling. In terms of finding those individual items that are 10s and amazing, I definitely do not have total trust in my instincts there yet. I hope that it'll come as I continue refining!

It is soooooo reassuring to hear that some of you still have your doubts from time to time. And I think you're so right Andrea that it's a work in progress. Maybe we're never supposed to be completely 100% sure...I don't know.

Kim - I'm happy that you're dressing like a big girl (lol)!!!

Mo - you will definitely have another learning curve with learning to redress for colder weather. But consider it a fun challenge!

I don't feel like I've arrived at all, but I'm getting there. I feel like I have a good feel for getting dressed daily, but still like confirmation that things fit well when I buy them. And I definitely need feedback on certain items I'm not confident about, like shoes. But I'm starting to get the hang of it little by little.

Not a veteran member, but here goes!

I feel like I started to dress better around the time I started interviewing for medical school. (I dropped so much money on nice suiting!) That was early 2010. I feel like later that year, around November, December-ish was when I really started to just get what worked together and what didn't. I distinctly remember trying to dress for a date in July 2010 and going waaaaay overboard while trying to dress stylishly. My date later told me exactly what he thought of that outfit. xD

Kinda like Queen Mum, I felt I had a pretty good handle on my summer outfits by the end of this season. BUT . . . I am headed back to land of snow and layers and boots and jackets that I have not had the practice of putting together for 2 years now. I have a lot of outfit ideas and pics of possibilities but the reality is, I have not put on and worn cold weather looks and feel like I'll be a newbie again. I do feel that I have a much better idea of what works and doesn't but I don't have a handle on the "killer" outfits and am sometimes surprised.

I'm not there yet. I have my "uniform" that I know looks pretty good, but I still need the feedback when it comes to new things. But I'm going slow about it all anyway so that's alright!

like within the past week....LOL. Actually I'd say I started to feel pretty confident around summer time. And was just thinking about this the other day that I feel really good about being able to get dressed ALL BY MYSELF like a big girl!

I'm hit or miss... I usually know when something is off, which is a good thing. I don't always know what's going to be killer or why yet. However, I've got certain formulas that I know are surefire and it's when I start to tweak them that things get shaky. Like with my black and white checked tunic that was deemed too long - I do lots of tunics and skinnies, but the variation on that did not go over well.

In other words, I'm a Veteran by length of time as a member only!

Like CS, I trust my instincts and they are often WRONG! (okay, MY instincts are wrong - not Chewie's. You know what I'm trying to say! :-p )

YLF has given me a more critical eye, a better understanding of proportion and introduced me to PPL! My dog show wardrobe has been heavily influenced by YLF and I feel I have a pretty good handle on that. My casual wardrobe is a work in progress. Sometimes I don't realize I got it wrong until I post WIW photos and actually LOOK at them. Then I have those" what was I thinking?" moments.

I am happy with my sense of color and the pairings I make in that regard. I am still developing a feel for fit and proportion and trying to work on a sense of textures as well as what best flatters my figure. It's a work in progress.

I've always trusted my instincts- even when I shouldn't have ;). Seriously though, I fell in love with a sesame street all over printed t shirt and a pair of purple jeans when I was 5 and wore them every day. I knew I was the cat's pajamas in that outfit. I still get the same feelings from my outfits now.

I have a pretty good feel for when I feel good in a outfit. I cannot however predict a killer rating. For what's it's worth my very first WIW got a killer rating.

Actually, I think one of the great gifts YLF has given me is being able to recognize when *I* feel great in an outfit, irrespective of how others may feel about it. It's really nice to get positive feedback on an outfit and if an outfit got a unanimous thumbs down I might reassess how I wore it, but I've found that if I don't FEEL good in something, I avoid it even if it gets approval on the forum.

I guess what I am saying is that the journey is more about you than your clothes. Having said that, I always find it a bit scary trying out a new trend or pushing my style envelope a bit, so it's great to know the members here have my back. I suspect it's like getting older- I remember thinking as a young woman " when I'm 18....21...25...30.....I will have my whole life together". I now realize it's a journey and it won't be complete until I'm dead.

When in your style journey did you start trusting your instincts? Do you know when an outfit is k-worthy? Sometimes I know when my outfit works, but others times I honestly have no clue. Take today's outfit for example - I questioned the colour combination, the silhouettes, the pieces together and was genuinely surprised when I got such positive feedback. When will I believe my own choices and style???
