I like the pattern you chose and it looks like she's wearing a belt of the same fabric which I also like and think might be more flattering than a wider belt or no belt at all.
You didn't give your bust measurement but it sounds like you're pretty curvy and too voluminous or undefined won't highlight that at all, which would be a shame.
BlondeAmbitions suggestions are all excellent and include flattering details that could be found in other items, and they all have some waist defintion.
I admire your commitment to looking nice even though you may be mostly around the house, I'm convinced it makes things better for everyone, yourself the first.

It's hard to tell without actually seeing your body shape. Based on your measurements I have a similar problem. But your waist is smaller than your hips so a belt would be nice. It works on me anyway.

My lower tummy is a problem area for me too but I find that a wrap style shirt or dress is extremely flattering

Thank you. I'll look through the links you suggested.
I always find it hard to visualize what clothes would look like on a plus sized frame like mine.

Look up some of my WIWs - I've been disguising a swollen midsection for a year now and just had surgery so expect it to be that way for a while. Looser draped and tunic tops with interesting details are good - they skim without clinging.

Some examples below - not sure what your style is yet!

I agree, looser tops with skinny bottoms would look nice. Or tops that skim your body. I also tend to gain around my middle so avoid styles that emphasize my waist.

I looked at the Etsy pattern...which I would call a 'tunic'. The one made up in the bright yellow fabric gives you the best chance to see what it would look like without a belt, and I agree with Marianna that a slim belt would not be a good idea -- or any belt, for that matter. A more subdued solid or a nice print would look well, in my opinion. Maybe not as wild as the print in thebig photo but whatever you like that fits your lifestyle and taste.

Have you read Angie's wonderful articles about how to dress the body types? They are fantastic and I highly recommend them. I believe the shape you described is an 'apple', so that's what you should look for.

ETA to find these posts about dressing the Apple shape, use the Search tool (top, right-hand of this site) and choose 'The Blog' and 'For All Time'. Enjoy!

I have a big tummy too. High wasted pants help hold it in. Also drapey tops. Nothing clingy. I don't wear anything that synches in the middle or that cuts me in half visually. That Etsy top is cute but not sure I like the belt around the middle - for me that wouldn't work.

Hi When I put on weight it goes to bust and tummy and I'm a real apple.
Here are some structured styles I used to wear. Actually not all structured but dresses are. I find the slim pants give structure to looser tops

My first thought is: it's all about fabric. You might prefer woven materials over knit ones. Do you have a preference for pants or skirts?

Please could i have some ideas of good styles for my big tummy...by big i mean a 44in tummy, 37in waist and 48in hips.

i'm a home educator but i don't like looking sloppy.
I love the idea of semi-fitted outfits but they don't suit my shape or "career"

I'd be grateful for any advice
