Agree with all of the above. For NY you'll want a warm, weatherproof coat and boots. For LV, you'll want to be prepared for likely wind and possible rain, but temps will probably feel more like fall than winter. When the sun is out, it warms up pretty significantly, and once the sun sets the temp can drop down to freezing, so layering is key. I'd bring a mix of dressy and casual. Like Laura says, anything goes. You'll see everything from cocktail dresses to Hawaiian shirts, stilettos to flip-flops, all in one place. (OT: If you decide you want a break from the Strip, I highly recommend renting a car and going out to Red Rocks for a day -- beautiful desert landscape, mix of car-accessible vistas and short hiking trails.)

Honestly, NYC has a huge range of dress, too, and it varies so much depending on where you're staying and what you'll be seeing. Bright colours generally scream "tourist" -- it is a city devoted to black and dark neutrals -- but there are folks like Angie who do polished brights with panache and make it look completely natural. And yes -- make sure your footwear is comfortable, well-broken in, and walkable! You'll put serious miles in in both cities.

Vegas won't be that cold but there could well be rain. And I agree that there's a lot of walking, even if you never go outside! Honestly, anything goes in Vegas; you can see it all, high, low, and in between.

New York will be cold and snowy/slushy so bring a decent coat and gloves/scarf/etc and weatherproof boots with a good tread.

This is sort of lazy fashion advice, but perhaps a few black tops and a black dress ... They are so easy to dress up with a bit of jewellery or a red lipstick, hide stains, and sort of blend into any setting. Have a great trip!

Agree with Angie. Build the outfits from the shoes up. I don’t find Vegas that cold, even in winter, but YMMV. I would expect NYC to be cold. Do you have a jacket that will hold up well to rain, in case you run into any?

Sounds like a good start. Make sure you try on ALL the outfits you have in your head so that you make sure you like them.

You MUST pack lots of pairs of comfortable shoes. NYC and Vegas are all about walking. You'll be astounded at how long and large the distances are between things in Vegas. Even walking to the lobby in a Vegas hotel is hectic.

I am travelling to New York and Vegas in three weeks (middle of Feb 2018). My husband and I will be travelling with friends who are all very glamourous. I am not! I need some outfits that will help me keep up with the other ladies, but also keep me comfortable! I am in the UK. I'm thinking black jeans and a range of tops/jumpers (will be freeeeeezing in Feb), black leather skirt, a cocktail dress and a leather jacket/faux fur jacket. What do you think? Any tips?
