I thought simply wearing broken in sandals was enough. Lucky you were able to get ahold of some comfy shoes. A few weeks ago when we were in Texas and it got up to 90 (!) my feet were fine because I didn't try for any fashiony looks. I brought my waterproof hiking shoes and socks. The shoes he brought weren't up to the task of walking several miles a day, and the poor kid was limping by the second day. Even the best of worn in shoes is going to fail under duress. I got lucky with my faux-rockstuds during our Bahama vacation. I narrowly avoided this last March on my Cuba trip. I took a pair of sandals to wear for dinners out, and a pair of slip-on sneakers to walk around all day. Well, I failed to take into account that I hadn't worn those sneakers (and no socks) since the prior summer. I wore them for a 2-mile walk around Miami before departing for Cuba, and ouch, ouch, ouch, blisters! I grabbed a pair of Skechers, some moleskin and some Body Glide before going to Cuba, and that totally saved my feet.
