I don't use lotion on my face so that's not it. I returned the BM today anyway (though I lost the receipt so I need to find something to use my store credit on).

Maya, I keep meaning to tell you too _ OT _ that I read that if one uses alot of lotion or it doesn't completely dry with BE make-up, it causes breakouts because the minerals clump together and block pores. Who knew ! ( I actually read this in a medical magazine while I waited to see my doctor ! )

Yeah, I mean like the plastic/nylon ones. I don't think there is such a thing as a good hair-like substitute for hair brushes the way there is for make-up brushes. I don't think anything is stiff enough. I have a hair brush with wooden bristles from Whole Foods that I like a lot. The company that makes it is called Bass. I like it much better than more expensive brushes, actually, but that is because it stands up to my thick, coarse hair, whereas you might prefer soft nylon bristles in a pin-cushion because your hair is probably softer. Maybe check Whole Foods. Also Denman makes good quality brushes with many models that are metal or nylon-based.

Maya, the Sonia K. is at Target.

Also, I cannot recommend Wen by Chaz Dean hair products enough. I started 2 months ago and the stuff is amazing. It is chemical free and has no detergents - so it doesn't foam. For decades, dermatologists have told us not to use foaming products on our skin because it is so drying, yet we continue to foam up our hair ( which is already dry and dead ).

It seems expensive, but you don't shampoo as much. I only shampoo now once or twice a week.....no kidding. I laughed the first time I heard that. My hair is super shiny, my cowlicks are gone, I have so much body and volume it is nuts !!!

You get it on one of the shopping networks and you can try it for 30 days, if you don't like it , return it. I would recommend that you watch the instructional videos on youtube ( I blow dry just like Chaz demonstrates. )

Actually Scarlet, most of them are not faux. Some are boar's hair and now porcupine hair seems to be the in thing as well. That's what makes it so tricky. And icky.

I guess I'm not asking for faux boar's hair as much as something that fulfills the same purpose (distributing oil down the shaft and making hair shiny without being damaging). Maybe I'm a snob but I just don't have much faith in Goody.

Good suggestions for makeup brushes though. I will investigate all of these options.

I also hear that EcoTools is good (and really cheap) but I have never tried the brand myself. A bit confused by the request for a faux boar bristle brush, as most them are faux, like from Goody for example.

Maya - I use Ecotools - that are cruelty free and made of bamboo. I believe that Sonia Kushak ( ? ) also has a limited edition set of make - up brushes that are cruelty free and bamboo.

I don't know about the hair brush.........tells you alot about my hair. This is a tough one, because plastic is so bad for the environment too...but I would rather not hurt an animal.

Maya, I don't know if they sell a stippling brush specifically, but I am a huge fan of the EcoTools retractable kabuki brush, so they might be worth looking into. Their line is sold in drugstores at a very reasonable price and they claim their brush bristles are 100% taklon, environmentally-friendly, cruelty-free, etc.

Maya, thanks for posting this. You know I don't wear leather or fur, but this had never even occurred to me. I had just resolved to start trying to wear makeup (sometimes) and was going to buy some brushes. So this was right in time! (Melissa and Megan, great suggestions!)

I would really like to find two things that I am currently unable to find:

-Vegan (faux) boar bristle hair brush
-Stippling brush that contains no animal hair. Most seem to contain both natural and synthetic hair.

If I can't find either, what can I use instead that will give me the same results?
