It seems close, but not quite your style, IMO, with the ruching and faux double-breasted buttons. I would keep an eye out at Pendleton, as they often have some beautiful and unusual colors, and their styles are more classic, perhaps easier to dress down as you would be wanting to do.

Well based on looks alone, I really love it. I love the colour, style and ruched sleeve, which makes it more casual and versatile to my eye. However, that said, this is a statement piece it has to be LOVE (but it certainly has a wow factor).

UmmLila, I know, waaah! I was hoping it was lighter weight. This jacket is longer than my usual blazer- it’s below hip- and bulkier due to fabric , so with shortened sleeves and open front style, ended up being seasonally confused for me.

Dana, yes indeed. Informed my decision, based on what know I’ll wear or not wear in what temps, and how this jacket is designed.
It’s so funny because when I think of it in more abstract terms I get FOMO, but when I put it on I go, oh, you know this will not work IRL enough of the time.

I've seen this in person. The color was beautiful and if I remember, it was nice and soft, but I thought the combination of fibers was really odd. It seems like it would have a short wearing season unless you also wore it in fall. I also don't understand the ruched sleeves. If you're going to wear a blazer this weight, might it not be cold enough for a full length sleeve?

Yes and yes. Thanks to all for wise comments.
Staysfit, it is a soft tweed, yet not a classic wool tweed formulation, so I think it borders on a not- great fabric that might pill. Though that’s just speculation.
I think the tweed blend and colors ( its remakable, has flecks of almost red , and blues-which is what allows it to go with lots of things) will be hard to duplicate, except maybe in a heartier winter tweed, though I look for “ summer tweeds” in several color types I could used). But, never say never !
However, as I tried it on further, and compared it with other blazers and jackets, it’s just not how I want to present myself, even with the color.

I had also put “ no more winter blazers ( wools and such) on my Do Not Buy list, because a) I never really needing that weight even professionally, because I would wear a coat alone or over a lighter blazer) - I just fall in love with woolly things. And more so now, in colder weather I will be more likely to wear a thicker or more fluid top and wear looser-fitting outerwear for warmth. — peacoat, walking coat, trench coat, down jacket, Athleisure jacket, coatigan.
Which come in happy colors and often don’t have to match or blend with top quite as closely as a blazer.
I’m packing it up today. I do feel relief and not sad- glad I could think about which aspects were good/ fun and which weren’t and what I learned about what I might like better, and no rush.

I agree with the general theme - it is beautiful, but it sounds like there are enough concerns with it that it's likely better to use it as the inspiration to hunt for something similar but more suited to your preferences.

Unfrumped, I can see why this decision is tough. The colors in this tweed are so nice. Is the tweed soft, or rough and scratchy? Intentionally pushing up sleeves is one method I use for compensation when they are too short for my long arms. The pre-scrunching here makes me laugh for this reason (sorry). How does this scrunching look and feel on an arm if you are wearing long sleeves under the blazer? Is it bulky or constricting?

Well , sleeping on it , plus the thoughtful comments, has been helpful.
I believe it’s not going to earn a place in my wardrobe.
I love the “ whole lotta faux” comment! The main thing is the sleeves- there is too much bunching, and not where I want it, and I think the sleeves are wider to accommodate the ruching, and too short for colder weather . Doesn’t work for what needs to be a versatile casual blazer. I almost never button my blazers, and have kept ones that don’t look best buttoned due being too straight for my hips, but they still have the amount of fabric that would overlap a little. Whereas this just barely meets in the middle but is not exactly an open front either. Plus I think the actual fabric should be better at this price point.
I’m not hating on it; I just know these things would bug me. And even if a lot cheaper would not go away.
I wish I were better at not ordering in the first place— I saw red flags but loved the tweed colors and let my goggle- eyes take over.

It's a beautiful color, but I agree with Vildy's thoughts about the "faux" content. Though I personally wouldn't mind the hook closure, I normally wear open blazers. Maybe it is the faux sleeve scrunch - I also associate that with cheaper construction for some reason. Hopefully the scrunches can be let down.

I purchased a 1.STATE blazer from Nordstrom in 2019 and worked with a tailor on their alterations staff to remove the sleeve ruching. It did not turn out well (no fault of the tailor). The shape of the entire sleeve was changed by removing the structure of the ruching, and the sleeve then looked much too loose at full length. Also, it's hard to predict in advance what you might be dealing with in terms of buttonhole issues, should the length of the non-ruched sleeve require further alterations.

I understand about falling in love with a fabric. I don't personally like the bulk of a ruched sleeve. It can probably be fixed by releasing it and then rehemming the sleeve end and whatever shortage may then exist in the lining, just add a length of lining.

The rows of buttons are cute but in my mind there's an awful lot of faux going on with this jacket. Faux ruching. Faux double breasted. Faux underlayer with the dickey. That's an awful lot of styling they've made you commit to.

Beautiful blazer - wonder if it fits easily under some coats ( or require oversized coat on top of it ). I have the puffer just for that sort of jacket - slightly big but accommodates jackets.
Ruching looks very nice - maybe some pics with your layering pieces for visual ( I'd do long slim fitting top under in some navy or burgundy color - if I'd one ).

This is a gorgeous piece . I actually like the ruching here , but I know what you mean about how it can cheapen the look of a jacket . I personally wouldn’t mess with the sleeve as this kind of “alteration “ doesn’t always work out . If the sleeve bothers you - don’t buy it .

It is a beautiful blazer but the sleeves... Check the sleeve lining, if it’s not ruched, you will not be able to release tweedy fabric, it would create extra fabric on top of the lining.

Star, Phoebe, thank you.
Trying it on some more I am seeing not only that the shortened sleeve length is a problem, but that the ruching style is at odds with the fabric. The soft tweedy fabric looks too bulky when ruched.
Abd the fit with button decorations. You see it’s styled with layers on the stock photo, but I’d often wear with a more fitted knit top or silky shirt. When I do that, it looks more boxy than I first thought.

So, having been noodling on moving my color palette into more deep lavenders and orchids , I saw this VB blazer. I think it might have bobbled back & forth on sale but maybe not. Anyway when it went on sale I ordered.
It’s a luscious color, very happy but also muted for my coloring and, due to the tweedy nature, which is what caught my eye, it goes with lots of colors-a wide range of light and dark berries and blues, not just more mauvy- orchids, black & navy, white of course, and also with patterns I already have, and great with jeans or solid dark pants. And it fits and I think looks good in my first quick try- ons.
Here are some details which I’m thinking through, ‘ cause that’s how I am:
It’s a warmer than I thought - I knew it had wool, so not high- summer weight, but also cotton, but it’s kind of felt- y. Of course I was trying it on in 80 + degrees . It has ruched sleeves which then may be less versatile at cooler temps, and less classic. But they’re “ longer ruched”, if that makes sense, compared to some VB, so very similar to how I’d turn back a blazer sleeve hem.
It’s “ faux double- breasted”( doesn’t overlap and button, and has a hook closure, which I’ll never use and might want to remove.
So here are my ponderings:
- it’s spendy relative to % wear time of blazers in my new lifestyle. Also re: investment, it isn’t a super fine fabrication- I’m paying for VB name and the dickey option which I’ll likely not use. But OTOH it’s more “ casually versatile “ than some more refined jackets.
- I likely can’t wear until fall ( though we do have random cooler dips) , but then in my climate, I’d be able to wear off & on, with different weights and colors of tops & pants & outerwear, for about 9 months.
- are the ruched sleeves , just, no? Cheapie? I have tried to avoid after wearing out a ruched- sleeve linen blazer just because I wanted to stay very versatile and because a lot of time the ruching is done poorly and I admit I associate it with cheaper construction. These seem more subtle. For the sewists, can ruching be “ released “ or are the sleeves not constructed properly for that ? ( it’s in the fabric sleeve and so under the lining, and frankly I doubt I want to pay to try it )
- it’s a HEWI color blend, so I may have FOMO. Or I might get tired of it.
- would I do 1in/ 1 out with another blazer/ jacket? I have a wonderful Talbots camel hair blazer that’s great quality but the camel color doesn’t suit me, so I’m always trying to compensate with top colors or trying to use a print. Also my BR gray blazer, which is indestructible wool suiting, but maybe slightly off in fit or silhouette now, depending on what I wear. Due to pandemic I feel I’ve not been able to evaluate these types of items by trial wears.
