Thanks again ladies for the suggestions! It's a chilly, rainy week so I've enjoyed both Mink's and Murchie's for hot beverages! That they're so close to the convention center is huge bonus.

Nah, you won't need scarves or a puffer or anything. Just a mid-weight jacket or coat. DO pack an umbrella, or else a raincoat, because when it rains here it tends to just drizzle all day long, which can make you unpleasantly damp if you're out walking a lot. It also rarely gets windy, so umbrellas don't get turned inside-out.

Having said that, it might not rain at all. It can be sunny and gorgeous all October. You just never know. :-)

As far as shopping, Pacific Centre (which includes Holt Renfrew) is within walking distance of Gastown (which is itself quite cute, or at least alternates between gross drug-needle-strewn areas and upscale shops for hipsters). Granville Island is arty and fun, and a good place to browse and get lunch. You could take one of those tiny Aquabus boats across False Creek to get there! And yes, Stanley Park is gorgeous, and a walk around its seawall is splendid in good weather.

Perfect, thanks! I don't usually pack one so I will put it on the list.

Yes, an umbrella (or a good rain jacket with a hood) is a necessity!

Ooh, thanks Anna. I love dark chocolate so that is definitely on the list.

Charley, thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like I'll have to bring a wide range of outerwear or at least layers. And maybe an umbrella? Sadly I won't be there until after the 10th. The night market sounds awesome though.

If you like tea, Murchie's (https://www.murchies.com/store/locations) is great. The West Hastings location is in GasTown and it's a gorgeous area to walk around - the sea wall is lovely.

Stanley Park is great if you like walking / biking, and the Aquarium (located in the Park) is neat. Granville Island also has interesting markets and restaurants.

Plan for rainy, windy weather - it will be relatively temperate (anywhere from 10 - 20 degrees Celsius), but possibly damp. Layers and scarves will be your friend.

If you are there before October 10th (and over a weekend), you can also check out the Richmond Night Market (http://richmondnightmarket.com/faq/). It's accessible via the SkyTrain.

Hi fabbers!

I'll be traveling to Vancouver next month for a conference. I know it tends to be a bit more temperate than other parts of Canada, but can anyone give me any more detailed info about the weather? Do I need to pack scarves, heavier coats, or will I be okay in just a mid-level jacket? I have only been there once and it was in the middle of the summer.

Also, do you have any can't miss suggestions for sightseeing and or local shopping? I'll be staying near Gastown but won't have a car. I did go whale-watching when I was there a few years ago.

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom!
