Well, I am excited to say that I went to the Valentino exhibition today and like you told me, it was absolutely awe inspiring! I ended up having to take Master 3 with me as time is running out before the exhibition ends on 14/11 and I just could not see how I would get there otherwise.

Callumtino (AKA Master 3) and I spent a gorgeous, although slightly speedy, time admiring the stunning dresses. They were so awe inspiring. On one particular dress, what initially I thought were ribbons sewn into the design were discovered upon closer inspection to be teeny-tiny little sequins, each painstakingly sewn into position. Mind boggling!

The quality of the fabric, the construction of the clothes themselves and the intricate designs were enough to make you want to mortgage your house to buy just one. (Well, for a moment they did. Until reality kicked in and then of course everyone would be complaining that they were cold and wet! Nice to dream though.)

I had to giggle at Master 3's reaction to the dresses though - I thought it was an insight into the (majority of ) Aussie male psyche in regard to couture and probably a lot of the blokes there (who I must say, looked pretty bored):

"Q: Do you like these red dresses Callumtino? A: No, because they are borrrr-ing. They are red and red is boring. Q. How about this black dress, do you like the design? A: No - black is just so borrrrrrrr-iiiinnnnnggggg too! "

And then....... Just when I thought all was lost and my son was not going to become the next designer of the century and make his mummy gorgeous couture dresses so she could be the envy of all of the YLF community, he shrieked excitedly: "Oh look Mummy - I can see a butterfly on this dress!! I like this one. AND LOOK OVER THERE - A *YELLOW* DRESS! I ****LOOOOOOOVE***** IT!!!!!"

Yes, the caps are because he really was yelling quite loudly much to the amusement of the thousands of ladies there. So I prompted him "Q: Callumtino, why do you like the yellow dress so much? A: Because yellow is my favourite colour and if it is my favourite colour, it must be good. So I like it."

Oh, how good would it to be three again sometimes?! ;-)

Thanks for prompting me to go - it was a really fun day and one I'll remember always.

Michelle, no bags but shoes with all the outfits!

An, the documentary sounds good. The pictures and video they had of him did NOT look like an 80 y.o. I think he must have had "work done"

Theresa, 2 hours should be fine - there are two big rooms filled with clothes and a little room with video and print media, but unless you're planning to study everything minutely you'll have lots of time.

Oh,Sharon, that sounds like fun. I recently watched the documentary, Valentino Emperor, and really enjoyed the inside perspective. You would probably find it really intesting if you haven't already seen it Sharon.

I just had a lovely morning at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane. They are running a Valentino show, and had heaps of outfits on models with a description, year and any celebrity wearings. Amazing to see the same dresses worn by Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Onassis, Brooke Shields, Cate Blanchett and more.

It was absolutely magical, and interesting to see so many clothes that were up to 50 years old, but would not look at all dated if worn today. (Although the '70's stuff was very identifiably 70's!) One thing that really struck me was that texture is king! The most striking dresses had quilting or folding or lace or embroidery that just lifted the whole look from pretty to fabulous.

Brissie girls, go and see it!
