Sad to hear that Aquamarine, about people's unwillingness.
Australia has a national timetable that just got announced recently. Not starting until mid Feb. I will be in the second to last group which is fine, especially if my state remains free of community transmission. The government is very worried about the UK strain - they have locked down Brisbane for 3 days after a single case of it.

Staysfit, thank you for your perspective and reassurance. My 20-something daughter is a clinical researcher in a major medical system here on the East coast, so pre-COVID she was always interacting with hospitalized patients. Now she is mostly remote BUT occasionally has to go into work and as we all know, any patient who was “healthy” yesterday could have COVID today. Still, she was rightly in one of the last waves scheduled to get vaccinated in her hospital (we figured late Feb. or early March). Yesterday she was informed her wave could schedule their shots immediately, and she is going in tomorrow for her first shot. Apparently so many people REJECTED their spot in line that the later waves can get injected much sooner than anyone expected. The hospital says data is showing the no-shows are mostly lower-tiered employees who face COVID exposure daily as they clean rooms, transport patients, etc., so clearly we are not doing our best to communicate the importance and safety of the vaccine. Sigh.

As a health care provider working on a COVID unit, I felt so relieved to get my vaccine last week. Relief that I won’t carry the virus home to my family, relief that after a year I might see my Mom again soon, and relief that the death toll might finally start to flatten. The last 10 months have been truly exhausting. The only way out is for everyone who can safely do so to get vaccinated.

I really want to get it, and will as soon as I'm allowed. My husband is a cancer patient and I'm the only caregiver, but his Dr told me he thinks my husband will be allowed early but I won't be. How does that make sense? I'm around him all the time, and when we need something we can't order it's me out in public, not him. I also go to all Dr appointments, and have a few of my own. If I get sick it would be equally bad for both of us. I admit to not understanding or being clear on the whole priority list, but I'm really hoping the Dr is wrong.

I hope DH and I can get the vaccine soon as we are both over 73 and have preexisting conditions but live at home. In our state prison guards and prisoners are next after care givers, emergency personnel and maybe those in Care facilities. Our state got much less vaccine than expected, so we know it will be awhile yet. Thank you for the reassurance Stayfit.

As soon Dr Fauci promoted the vaccines, I was convinced I wanted it.

In my state I’m in the last group to get the vaccine (healthy 18-64 year olds). My husband is older and in the earlier group and will be able to get it sooner. When he does, he’ll have to run all the errands. I joke about this, but I think my state will make subgroups within the last group, as they have just announced today, moving 75 year olds to the second group. I am the oldest in the last group, having missed the cutoff by a mere six months.

My parents still live at home and are 74 and 77, but with many health issues so I hope they will get theirs by the end of January. My work is organizing vaccinations for all employees that should start end of February over few weekends (5000 people) if everything goes according to plan. My husband and son are way down priority list and will probably have to wait until summer.

Ok, so I actually have been doing exams on COVID patients for a bit of time. I won’t get my shot until the end of January, due to scheduling issues.
Every state has a different role out. I admit that I’m a bit upset to see “civilians” get it before me. But I’m biding my time, and trying to be careful.
I will be very happy for the jab.

We're waiting patiently. My DH is a teacher, so group 1B in our area. Just a few days ago our department of health indicated that they'll likely be able to start "1B" in February, so I have hope that he'll be able to get it in Feb/March. I'll be waiting a bit longer, since I can work from home- the only priority group I'm in is "over 40," so if I've had it by June, I'll consider myself lucky. I'll be curious if, by the time we get to the later groups, we'll have a choice of vaccine. Hoping the data the Johnson & Johnson one and (US-based trials) for the Astra-Zeneca/Oxford one look good. And that authorization for vaccination of children will follow soon!

Thank you for the insight and information. It’s encouraging to hear of people actually getting their vaccinations. The closest to me so far is a niece who is a NICU nurse in another state.

I’ve been a bit disappointed and, I admit, more than a bit angry about the slow distribution. Our county has made exciting news reports of healthcare workers being notified to receive vaccinations, while in the same article, deaths of more nursing home residents are announced. Please don’t take this wrong, as I really feel there are good reasons for the priority lists as they stand. However, as (I’ve mentioned before) my MIL is in assisted living facility, and my personal simmering underlying feeling is those vulnerable elderlies are the ones who are dying here, so they should be the first in line. I feel so afraid for them.

She has signed consent forms and anticipates getting vaccination “early to mid January.” I hope that comes true. Never has time moved so slowly IMO.

Thanks for posting. Everyone needs all the objective information they can get about this issue.

Rollout in the US has been slow and disjointed, with no clear leadership. Most states have received far fewer doses than they were originally promised. I am hoping that as an educator, I can be in line for vaccination after essential workers and those with risk factors. I probably will not be able to see my mum again until either we are both vaccinated or I can quarantine this summer. Either way, it will probably be until summer.

I believe in the science (and in science in general), and I will not hesitate to get the shot as soon as it is available to me. It is certainly better than the alternative of either potentially serious illness and/or continued isolation.

Excellent! So exciting to see this happening. I have no idea where my son and I are in any hierarchy, am just pleased to see it’s actually underway (also frustrated at the lack of clarity/unity in US prioritization, but that’s a different matter). Thanks for the post.

Received Moderna first does on 12/30. Northing more than sore injection site. Healthcare workers, first responders and elderly are being vaccinated in my community. It has gone smoothly with very few reactions. Hopeful is my word for 2021! Happy New Year to all!

Staysfit. Congratulations! So excited to read this, and to learn that many other fabbers will be able to receive a vaccine soon. I suspect I will be near the end of the line, I’m a baby when it comes to needles, but I can’t wait.
