White adds a slightly dressier, crisper touch than blue denim I believe. I have three of them, one white, and two blue. They never seem to feel right when I put them on. I think it’s because they are stiff, and fairly heavy. I’m not sure? Maybe it’s because they are so boxy, although one of mine is fairly fitted, and two are cropped; or maybe it’s the type of collar. Mine fit well, and my guess is they look okay too. I just am not fond of the look of a jean jacket for my style. Whenever I am about to cull them from my closet, I see people post about how much they love theirs, and I think I should try mine again, and so I keep them. I probably should give them away right? I prefer my Anorak jackets or my field jackets. It’s true that I wear a jean jackets with a dress when I want to “tone it down” so it doesn’t look so formal. I need to come up with another way to do that though. I have been using duster sweaters, and I think my Anorak jackets may work too. Sorry Smittie, I’m no help. I would tell you not to buy one. In my world they don’t get much play. I have one that I have had since college (undergrad), and that would be 30 years or so ago. It’s still a classic style. It still fits. I still rarely wear it. I also have a very light blue denim jacket and a blush one. They get a lot of use because I am always cold in summer AC. (Yeah, I have a denim jacket problem...) I noticed recently at Target a sort of "deconstructed" white denim jacket in which the collar was removed, and the sleeve and bottom hems opened and frayed, yet it did not look distressed. I LOVED this look as it seems fresh to me. I like high contrast all year, but especially on bright sunny days. A medium or dark wash would not get nearly as much play. The only issue with light toppers is you have to be ready to deal with more stains. My second choice after white would be a very pale blue, like Angie's above. I mostly wear mine with dresses or very simple skirt-and-tee outfits; I thought perhaps having a white one would free me up to wear it with jeans while avoiding the Canadian tuxedo look, but it usually feels like too much denim in one outfit. I do pair it with both of my wide leg crops.
