I'd go with converse, too, in the circumstances. People will notice you limping from blisters or being wierded out by dirt on your feet more than they will your shoes in the photos.

In that case, I'd go with the Converse and bring the ballet flats or ankle straps as back-up. Hey, if they're light enough, you can even pop them in your bag and change quickly for photo ops if there's enough prior notice

Thanku ManidipaM, it had not occured to me about dust showing. Yes I am in dilemma too. Ballet flats would not work for long hour walking. Thanks for the suggestion about socks in ballet flats looking too girly, yes it would indeed but the hot sun and the mud dirt would really get to my nerves if my toes are dirty. So maybe I would go for sneakers.

Makrame, I do not have dressy walking shoes. I have converse, toms and only one red oxfords. Maybe red oxfords would be nice but the dirt would ruin them and I love my oxfords a lot. Converse with socks might be good for walking. And yes I will be carrying only umbrella. I wanted a lot to carry a hat but I have not purchased one till date. Maybe that goes in my shopping list next month.

Wearing socks with shoes when doing a lot of walking is a great idea, otherwise you might end up with blisters. What kind of sneakers do you have? Anything that looks somewhat dressy (dark walking shoes, flat oxfords etc.) or only athletic-looking sneakers? If I had a choice, I would probably wear flat oxfords and socks with jeans. Flats with socks might be fine, depending on what kind/color socks you have (thin nude-colored socks or knee-highs, for example, would be fine).

Do you need a hat or will the umbrella be enough for protection from the sun?

It really depends on how well your shoes fit and the terrain.

Especially on uneven ground, I find some ballet flats can slide around on my feet and cause blisters or just need readjusting every so often. Not a confident look! Anything with straps or a higher vamp is easier to keep on, under the circumstances, so as long as your ankle-strap flats are comfy, those might be better.

You said dusty roads and heat. Do you think a couple of tops in non-pastel colours would be better than white to prevent the dust from showing? A brighter/deeper colour might look better with black leggings too.

I'm also somewhat uncertain about wearing socks with ballet shoes. Is it at all possible for you to snap a quick photo to show us what this looks like? I'm worried it might end up looking too 'little girl' for a big event.

I am going out of office for some official work today evening. Its a rural village and a lot of walking needs to be done. Dusty roads, greenery and fresh air along with burning hot sun are some characterstics I will face. I wil be there for two days and I need to do a lot of walking (my work is to walk a lot there) in that hot 9 am to 4 pm unforgiving sun. I have packed these items. I need your help as to what to wear and pack keeping in mind my walking part

1. One pair of jeans and short sleeved white tops that I will be wearing when I will be going there with a black ballet flats and socks. I hate dirt on my legs.

2. One full sleeved pastel tunic and black leggings with brown ankle strapped flat that I will wear for first day of walking in the village.

3. One pink tee and denim bermudas with sneakers for second day of walking.

4. Sunscreen, umbrella, water bottle and a cross body bag for easiness in carrying stuffs and walking too.

5. An olive linen pant and blue tees with sneaker in case I need some variety.

Any suggetion to change my clothes for walking will be appreciated. And also please note that I do not like wearing linen that much. Are ballet flats/ankle strap flat sandals ok for walking hours and hours or do I not pack them at all.

Do I only take some walking shoes/sneakers. But I want to remain fashionable and comfortable at the same time since this is a big event for me and my company (pictures witll be taken and published in local newspapers:-)
