Thanks everyone! Now I've got a few good things to try, without feeling like I'm going to have to go to a kazillion stores. You've all clued into exactly what I'd like to buy - a bit more 'cool', but not anything overly trendy.

I got my husband dark wash GAP jeans last Christmas time. He had also been wearing the same faded levi's since college. They make lots of different cuts, from slim to baggy. One of them is sure to fit. He refused to go to the store. I ended up ordering a bunch of sizes and styles online, I exchanged the ones that didn't fit for duplicates of the ones he liked. He is a non-shopper so this was the only way I could get him to move on.

What Ana said. If premium jeans are not an option - take hubby to BR. Try on their straight leg fit. They make cool jeans (modern fit) at an affordable price.

I like Banana Republic men's jeans pretty well. They are one of the few "mainstream" stores that carry my husband's size (on their website). And the price is pretty reasonable, especially if you can get them on sale.

I don't know if I said this in Mo's thread, but my favorite jeans on my husband are from Pac Sun. I think we ended up getting him the Dillon Skinny and they look really good on him and are washing up very well (he's had them for months and he wears them all the time). Even though they are called "skinny" they are looser fitting than typical. I'm not sure if they have any whiskering or not. And FWIW, my husband is 46 and not a cool dude :-)
I had bought a pair of COH, tore the price part off and made him try them on and I hated them on him.

Hi Velvetychocolate --

Believe it or not, Men's Warehouse might be a place to check out for jeans as well as business casual workwear. They carry Lucky and William Rast jeans along with their house brand (something Italian-sounding, ha) and others.

Everything is very contained -- so no running all over a department store looking for different brands -- and they run buy one get one sales all the time, so it may be a great "gateway drug" place for your hates-to-shop husband.

Worked well for Mr Vix this summer, who has since branched out a little. ;)

[I think he ended up in straight legs like the Lee's you posted, but the fabric and dark wash was definitely more a premium denim. With the BOGO the price point may have been about $60...premium denim's $$$ was never gonna happen for him.]

Thank you Mo! I'm off to read the link...

eta: just looked at the picture, and I like the colour of your bf's jeans - you two did well!

These days, due to a new-ish, higher profile job, he's only wearing jeans maybe once on weekends, so spending a bit more for something better might work out. I realize this is the complete opposite of trying to maximize so-called "cost per wear" - but if he thinks the jeans will last a long time, then I can probably get it done. Thanks again.

I had this same question months back and maybe the replies I got might help you. http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-your-life
My BF ended up with the Citizens of Humanity in Jagger and Sid cuts, one a very dark wash and the other a lighter medium blue for variety. We shopped in person at Nordstroms. Tried on many other brands as well, at Saks I believe. They did cost upwards of $150 so I hope they end up wearing well and lasting!

EDIT: the Jaggers are being hemmed right now but here's a pic of the color/cut as we were folding them to possible hemming lengths.

My husband looks great in his new black pea coat and cashmere scarf, and I'd like to take this chance now to try and get him some newer jeans. He's been wearing Lee regular jeans forever. The one time I tried buying him some jeans because they looked nice on the mannequin in a store, it was a disaster - they were way too baggy in the legs and so on. Even though my husband has a few pounds to lose, his legs are quite slim.

In the meantime, there's just no way he's going to go for anything with any hint of bling or weird whiskering or what have you. He's not going to like anything overly skinny *or* baggy. The thing is - I think the Lee jeans look somewhat dated, even though they are a very dark wash and fit him quite well.

In the meantime, here's a picture (from the Lee website) of the type/style of jeans he's been wearing since long before we met (he's been wearing these Lee jeans for ...possibly two decades now). We've been married for 7 years, and I get the feeling he's worn these same jeans pretty much forever.

They don't look bad - the colour is nice, and the straight leg suits him well - just that I'd like to find him something a bit more updated.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

I keep commenting how nice he looks in his new 'smart-casual' black jacket, and I think he likes it. He's been making noises ...(very, very faint noises) about wanting to look a bit more stylish.

I knew something was up though, when he took the dog for a walk in his new coat the very day after we bought it.

Are the Lee jeans ok? I'm not sure. If not, do you have any suggestions for a more updated style/brand?

Thanks for any suggestions you might have :)

eta: it's near impossible to get him into any kind of clothing store...let alone a dressing room.
