Thanks bj1111. I didn't think about it before but it's really a good way to change the look of a watch. And a new band doesn't cost much!

Thanks Isis! I'm not sure if my wrist size is big or small in comparison, but these were big on me. But like I said, my eye just has to adjust to it.

Elly, I just had a look and I think my wrists are similar to yours. The watches above are all 40. I'll go back and try the one with the leather band too to see if it's comfortable.

Hmmm . . . I have pretty tiny wrists for someone that is 5'8" (5.75"). I have about 2" of wrist visible across the top. It depends on the style and how much extra metal sticks past the casing that the band is attached to, but I like between 38-40 for over-sized-- (fossil has a lot of great men's watches that are 38 if 40 feels a little big) and no smaller than 30 mm on my wrist before it looks too dainty.

I love the last watch!

How oversized it will be probably depends on how big your wrists are!

i love the retro look of the choices. i have a friend who swaps out the bands for different occassions...esp the twill ones in fun colors and patterns. satin for black tie.

Shannon, I think so too! I really love that last picture. This one (#3) is cheaper than the first one I posted (#1), the price difference would suffice for an additional leather band.

Thanks Meredith! That guide is really helpful. I know that I have to get used to the look, I just thought it might be too big if the watch is as wide as my arm. The big ones here were 40 mm btw and the women's watch I tried was 34 mm. I just had a look and my current one is 28 mm!

Astrid,
My two larger watch faces looked HUGE when I first got them but now they look normal to me. Liz Taylor (when referring to diamonds) called this the "shrinkage" factor! Below is a guide to diifferent sizes of watch faces if want to see a comparison.

yup...what jem said.

i think of oversized as a "men's watch" before oversized became ubiquitous.

let's not get flavor-flav.

First things first, I didn't buy the Fossil watch. Here's the last thread:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ep-looking

I'll have to wait for the coat I ordered to arrive before I decide to splurge on a watch.

BUT I went to look for the watch that I found yesterday during my late night search anyway, the one in picture #1. And they had it! And let me say, this baby is special. It looked nothing like all the other watches in the displays around it. I really liked the look of it, the simple retro feel is even more noticeable when you see it for real.

Although, and here comes my question, it is really BIG! So how big is oversized? When is it too much? I wasn't sure if it wasn't too big for me (it's a men's watch).

Another one I tried that I liked too was the one in picture #2, completely different style, but it reminded me of the description Scarlet gave of an imaginery watch that could fit me. I really love the clock face on this one, it's so pretty with the rose gold! But I'm not sure if the color of the leather strap is the best for me, because it was a really warm brown-red and I definitely prefer cool colors in my clothing. This one was about as big as the first one, also a men's watch.

I also tried an oversized women's model that was a lot smaller in comparison (although still big if you look at my current watch).

How is your watch/wrist ratio?
