Target does not carry petites and most of those sweaters look like they'd be too long on me, but maybe I should check things out in a Target store at some point. I like the idea of building a brown capsule of a coat, bag, and pants.....although I'm finding it much easier to find sweaters and scarves!  I'm actually looking for warm dark browns..."chocolate"...they are much better on me than cooler browns, although some are ok.   nemosmon, I agree there should be more chocolate browns in stores :-). When I give up and just take what’s on offer, that item invariably goes unworn. I hear you on the dearth of dark brown, a color I think of as mud brown. Cool tone browns are in short supply at retail. They made a small showing last season and I snagged several, among them an oversized midi coat, patent leather bag, and wide leg trousers. Since warm toned browns are currently well-represented at retail, I’m enjoying buying items in those shades to refresh different categories. Try some new-to-you retailers for your cool browns—also keep an eye out when you travel—and enjoy the hunt! I do have a few mushroom/tan items (mostly sweaters) but generally prefer the warmer browns on me. Cognac is a great warm color that I find goes with ALL the other colors I wear. Pink is not a color I wear but I could see it working with cognac. Hmmm...note to self....I have just one pair of cognac booties ...perhaps another in a different style would be just as versatile as the elusive chocolate brown.... I share your desire for a dark chocolate brown item or two and have found none. For me the perfect cool dark brown is elusive; most are warm browns. I have allowed myself to be swayed and bought cognac boots this week and a pink sweater instead of brown. Not regretting it, actually thrilled with my purchases which are wild cards. Since I joined YLF I have made quite a big change in how I shop. I used to only do  "whatever is on sale or whatever is sold at TJmaxx" shopping, which is a lot of fun but does NOT lead to a cohesive wardrobe. I still do a bit of that, and still love it, but I now do much more focused shopping most of the time, where I think ahead about what color, style, and type of garment would be a good addition. I know the jacket will work because I have the exact same one  in cognac :-)  I don’t think I’ve seen ANY traditional mid-rise slim-leg pants or jeans in dark browns in stores and the offerings online are pretty sparse, but I’ll keep looking. I love that Frye cross body with the handles but it’s a little too small. Also considering bronze booties. Inge provided a bunch of great suggestions, and I've been trying some things, but have not kept any. The "collection" scarf was perfect color-wise but a very thin fabric that won't drape well and I prefer more substantial scarves. The Levi's jacket fit was typical for moto jackets in regular sizes on me...if the shoulders fit, I can't get the zipper closed at the bottom. I need petite sizing. The Joseph Seibel booties didn't fit right; the heel fit was right, the top edge was almost too tight on my ankle, and there was too much room above the toe. The Style&Co sweater was too tight in the torso and a little too long overall in the size I tried. The last scarf was pretty with a bit of a gold sheen to it, but I decided I'd rather have a more colorful scarf where the dark brown is one of several colors. The brown loafers were wonderful (and a top pick in a lighter color), with a bit of a shine, but I've decided to focus on booties instead because they will get more wear in my climate. I looked at the cross body bag in person and the color was more like cognac, very similar to a cross body I already own.
