I've found that my favorite thing for cold-weather beach walks is a pair of tall Bogs. They come up high enough to keep sand out, are completely waterproof and very warm because they're made with rubber-coated neoprene. I don't think I've ever seen them in Europe, though. They are perfect for New England, where cold always comes with a side of wet. I have the boring black ones, but they come in lots of cute prints too. I find the tall style to be better for a high instep than the shorter ones. I believe the insole is removable, which makes me think they are probably compatible with most orthotics. And they do make a wide calf version as well. Caveat -- my feet are not high volume overall but do have some high volume characteristics -- I have a medium forefoot, narrow heel, but a high arch/ instep that can make it difficult to impossible to get my foot into some bootie styles -- though with proper elastic, they work.&nbsp;</p> <p>Another thought. But the thing is this is footwear for daily dog walking: I’ll be walking from my flat, through the town centre and shopping street, straight to the beach. So will need “regular” footwear for that part of the walk. Once I’m on the beach, I would then need to change into barefoot shoes or water socks AND carry my normal shoes for the actual beach walk (1 to 1 1/2 hours), which I’d rather not (am schlepping around enough stuff as it is ;-)</p> <p>Staysfit - Thanks! The Asolos really do sound excellent, and like they will be a good fit for my feet and orthotics. I haven’t been able to find them here yet, but will continue to look around.</p> <p>Angie - Those UGGs yes! And I do have my UGG Winter boots (Find pic below), which I think (will look it up again) are waterproof, so those could become my Winter beach walk boots. Then it’s just a matter of finding a warm sneaker or some kind of bootie for some variety. During the flat hunt these past months, the weather was either hot (then I wore my Birkie sandals), or very nice (wore my Skecher sneakers), no need for a warm shoe really. They got full of sand, of course, but it was easy enough to shake it all out. When we went to the seaside on my birthday in January, I wore my Mephisto booties we bought together in Arnhem, and my feet did get wet.
