First I would like to apologize for not answering this on my WIW thread. I tend to post mornings/evenings and very rarely during the day as I can only access YLF then from my iPhone and I hate typing anything long on that thing.

There wasn't any particular blog post/guidelines on how to update bootcuts, I think the topic just naturally came about as a Rae started a Bootcut Bootcamp last week and a couple of us decided to join her.

I think Aida pretty much hit the nail on the head: I personally treat these jeans as modern classics and try to end trendier tops/shoes. For myself, what I found works really well is tucking into them with an interesting belt, as nobody tucked when they were super popular 5 or so years ago, and it is quite on trend now.

My biggest reason for loving boot cuts is they allow me to wear all my tall boots without the boots stealing centre stage from the rest of my outfit. Unlike some who have commented in the past, I don't consider this a waste of tall boots by wearing them hidden under jeans. They make our legs look longer and provide a much nicer silhouette than skinny jeans tucked into the same tall boots.

Cheers

Also, wanted to say that since bootcuts are a fairly classic shape you can treat them as you would any classic item that you wanted to look more modern. For myself, I also wear less classic bootcuts in the first place; mine are all baggy and more like flares than bootcuts. They are more dramatic, for sure, and look a bit trendier because of the bagginess. So I don't feel like I have to work very hard to keep them "modern" looking compared to what I'd do for a classic pair.

Agree with Rae, I tend to like mine best with something dramatic (extra voluminous and long cardigan, or fitted sweater dress), trendy (high-low hem sweater), or classically 70s (blousey blouse); add a more current twist to each of those for even more of an update, like buttoning a blouse all the way up. Having a trendy shoe will help as well, like the pointy pumps that are everywhere (though I'm not sure that's a shoe you can wear?). I don't see bootcuts as particularly UNtrendy, though it does feel like skinnies are the more prevalent shape these days.

I think a few of us all made an effort to wear our bootcuts recently. Mine are here:
http://onedollarwonders.lookfab.com/

I felt best in them either when paired with dramatic pieces (e.g. trench coat, flared wool coat) or trendy pieces (e.g. long hoodie layered under another jacket, slouchy sweater/tee/top, metallic bag). I feel like they probably look LESS current with fitted tees/jackets or with slinky, dressy tops (like in the 90s/00s).

Hi,

In this post, the issue of "updating bootcut jeans" came up. I'm curious what makes bootcuts look more or less "on trend." Was there a blog post about this? If so, can someone add the link below?

Thanks!
