I'm sorry to hear that things are rough. Don't worry about the gestational diabetes. You have to take meds, so what? Think of it as something completely normal that you need to do for your health and the health of your baby. Sending you good thoughts and positive vibes!

So sorry to hear this. Hugs to you and your family. Please do what you need to for your sake and the baby's even if that means letting some responsibilities go. You know at my former big 4 job we used to say "there's no such thing as an audit emergency" haha maybe you can apply that thinking to your situation? Xoxoxo take care

Hugs to you dear Thistle. Lots of surprises in pregnancy, sometimes good, sometimes not. In the end it is a small window of time, but can be very hard to get through.
I had 2 C-sections and had very little issues (I was walking the same night as the birth and off the pain meds both times). You know it's all worth it in the end so keep your eye on the prize!

*virtual hugs*. Pregnancy can be very rough can't it?
I just wanted to chime in to say I had an elective c'section and it was no big deal. I think women who have a rough time with the c'section often have a long labour and then the c'section, so they go into the surgery already exhausted I really didn't want a c'section, but actually it was totally fine.
The only thing is that you can have lifting restrictions afterwards, so it is good to put plans in place for that when you get home. I think you have another daughter? You won't be able to lift her, and that can be hard.
Wishing you all the best.

Aw, big hugs, Thistle! Sounds like you've had a rough go of it for the past while.

A couple of things: first, the gestational diabetes thing, while annoying and time-consuming to manage (you have my sympathy!), is not a crisis -- your baby will be fine (and so will you). I know three women who had it. None of them was diagnosed until halfway through her first pregnancy, and even so, none of the babies was enormous. All were born vaginally. Not totally sure why you need a planned c-section? But I agree with Joy; an appointment with a dietician is important, if you haven't had one already.

Secondly, don't worry too much about the c-section. If you do have one, it will be fine. I know so many women who had one, and they all managed. I've had a similar surgery and the first few days were rough (but you will be in hospital, with help from nurses) and after a week you will be moving around fine. It takes six or so weeks before normal pants are possible, but that's a drop in the bucket of your life! Also, even though I had run-of-the-mill vaginal births, I was nevertheless wearing yoga pants exclusively for at least six weeks postpartum!

I'm trying to catch up with posts and just found this one. I hope that things are going better. Lots of hugs. Stress of any kind is horrible with glucose levels. If you haven't had a session with a diabetic dietitian, I'd recommend it to help get you on track. Insurance should cover it. Keep at it. Your stomach will shrink and you will be able to do smaller meals. My body also had to adjust to more fiber. Stay away from artificial sweeteners which may be the cause of your irritation and discomfort. Your taste buds will adjust to no sweetner and you will begin to taste the natural sweetness of things like green beans

Glad you're in your third trimester, but it's distressing to learn about your mega-stress. It would be nice if you could get someone in NOW to train for when you are on maternity leave, esp. if you need to take off early. Of course, training someone plus doing one's own work can be an added stress, too. :(

When my DH retired, his diabetes and blood pressure improved so much that I think he was down to 1/4 or so of his diabetes meds, so I do understand about the impact of stress. His doctor was astounded, and of course DH monitors his blood a lot.

And wow! Your DD has graduated from a toddler to a pre-schooler! Such a milestone!

In cases like this I don't know if there is anything that can be said that can make things easier for you. But I hope you feel a little better for letting some steam out here. In the grand scheme of things end of October is not that far away, but when you deal with challenges on a daily basis it IS far away. But really - It will all be over one day. Just keep crossing off the days on the calendar. In the meantime, I hope you're easy on yourself and you relax whenever you can. Best of luck and big hugs.

So sorry Thistle. I know it is rough now. After having a long labor and emergency c like Una, I had a scheduled c-section with my twins and relatively speaking it was a breeze. Also the second one was a much easier recovery than the first one for me. I hope it is the same for you!

Thistle, I'm so sorry this has been such a rough time. And scary, too, I am sure. And I'm glad you shared with us. You are so right -- coming away from this with your health (and a healthy baby) will make the hard parts receded in memory. Hang in there. And we will help you plan your new wardrobe for the time when you are healed.

What a tough time for you. Running around after another child and working a stressful job while pregnant sounds incredibly difficult. Is it at all possible to go out on disability leave before your C-section and hopefully lower your stress levels?

I'm sure the doctors are monitoring you and the baby carefully so I'm sure the baby will be fine. We are all pulling for you

Thistle, this sounds miserable and hope it is all under control soon. Take care of yourself and the little one inside.
