Tracking, including gear, showed me that my hot pink Nikes are an unsung hero! While wearing gear (at the gym only) doesn't bother me like it does Angie, i really hate wearing trainers. As soon as i am done working out i switch to sandals for the hour drive home. The trainers live in my gym bag the rest of the time.
But, they are used about 4 days a week, year round, which i cant say about any other shoes. The color and fairly streamlined toe make me happy, and the rest of my gym capsule goes with them. So, even though they're "just gear" i appreciate them.

Most of my closet fits that description. I hang onto things forever, then bring them out again as needed. I pared down (in everything) a lot before our move, wonder what I'll miss a couple of years down the road.

I have some travel pieces that might fit into this slot. I don’t love them for day to day, but for travel they’re perfect: layerable, washable, neutral and versatile. I tend to just leave them in my suitcase after a trip because I get so sick of them while on the road-but there they are, ready to serve the next time I need to pack.

On a side note, travel wardrobes remind me why I don’t have a capsule closet. I find it so boring to rotate between those interchangeable pieces!

Hurrah for your (occasionally) useful blue jacket- good thing you’ve hung onto it.

My second hand beaded wool skirt fits this description. It is my go to basis for a holiday outfit, the perfect length and usually worn with a thrifted black cropped turtleneck and light weight scarf from Japan in Sade's of blue and turquoise. It is there when I need it and warm for a mid-winter occasion

Love it both ways, but especially with the pumps. I am thinking of a black asymmetrical skirt that I pull out when I have a holiday dinner and nothing else seems to work. Most of my unsung heroes eventually become workhorses I think.

Yes I do know what you mean!! Nice jacket too.

Probably for me this little green jacket is like that - it is a great shape and really useful (it comes on summer holidays with me always). I don't wear it lots and lots but I would be reluctant to get rid of it. Purchased 2014 - it was white - and dyed green a year later.

I am also fond of the red silk blouse. I don't have a big need for dressy tops but I love this one with black pants, or with jeans, and a red lipstick. I used to wear it with a black pencil skirt, I have worn it with flared jeans, skinny jeans, ankle pants and even an A line skirt. Purchased on sale in 2010 for $150 which seemed expensive for a sale item - but I love wearing it even though it only gets worn 5 or so times a year.

I have a pair of printed LK Bennett pumps that are on at least their 4th season. They are too distinctive to be workhorses, but 3 seasons of the year when I need something to pull an outfit together, they are what I reach for.

Hmm. Maybe my navy suede coat... when the weather seems just too sunny, even for me, for a Puffy. It’s secretly heavy enough to keep me warm.

Katerina-since we went to casual dress I’ve not worn those shoes, but I’ve kept them cause I love them, they added pizazz to all by dull column of color outfits.
Jussie...the funny thing is this jackets not really a workhorse. But it’s just there for when I need it

Very nice jacket! I also love the colourful pumps in the business casual outfit, do you still wear them?
Like you, I have a transitional jacket that fits the definition. It is a beige cotton jacket with large pockets and a drawstring waist. I am also thinking about my black patent leather clutch. Not fashion forward, not particularly exciting, but needed to some outfits when the cool guys don’t fit.

Mine would be a black silk jacket, and some red heeled brogues. Both take basic outfits and add just a bit of interest. And I’ve ended up wearing them far more than I thought I would when I bought them.

That is a great blue top,l was looking for something similar myself this spring without success. As for your question l suppose it’s probably got to be footwear,a pair of timberland waterproof boots that I live in from November to March.

As I got dressed this morning I started thinking about the unsung hero’s in my closet. You know, the pieces that aren’t the workhorses, they aren’t the flashy statement pieces, and they’re not really, but when you need them there they are.
The blue topper I’m wearing today is one of them. Not sure even how long I’ve owned this (the store closed in spring 2015, so at least 3.5 years). It’s just one of those items that’s perfect for the seasonal transitions because you can layer under it, it dresses up and down (including a picture from today Casual work & from 2016 business casual). It’s not fashion foward but it’s still current enough. In short, it’s an unassuming piece that makes it easy to get dressed when the temp is 55F in the morning and 70F at the end of the day.
What about you, what are your wardrobe unsung hero’s?
