Thanks for chiming in, Donna! Yes, they're still getting rest. There were a couple of times that I wore them for a couple of days in a row, but they were only worn a couple of hours at a time, so I think it's OK. It's been raining here the last couple of days, so they are getting rest because of that too. Thanks for the reminder...that will help me keep my old favorites in rotation!

New things often get a lot of love initially, and then things even out. Footwear needs to air out and rest for a day between wearings. Are your new sandals getting this rest?

I realize that, without necessarily formally crafting them, I end up dressing in capsules, which often switch over every 3 to 6 weeks, depending on my activities and the weather. When I'm in a "capsule," I often feature a new item and worry that I'll neglect something else. Since I've realized how much I "cycle'" in clothing, I've not worried about this too much.

I tend to shop a lot and my quantity of shoes, clothing and handbags is ever expanding. My new things are often pushing aside older things that are still adequately on-trend and wearable. I know I should slow down/go on SYC but shopping and YLF are my stress relievers! The thrift shop makes a good profit on all of my castaways; at least that benefits my small community.

OK, I'm hoping that this is just the fun of having a new member in my "wardrobe family" :). I guess only time will tell! I think part of it is that the wedges are a little harder to walk in, just due to the heel height—have to be careful not to trip over myself. But the comfort level is probably about the same for both pairs.

yes, i find this happens sometimes. sometimes it does signify that its time for item #1 to be retired, but usually, as others have noted, it just takes a little time for me return to the 1st item.

Gigi - I think we all go through the "new toy on the block phase" when we love something. The question is this a style shift or is it just new toy syndrome and you will actually wear both. I think that's the bigger question. Lovely sandals. Whatever you decide just enjoy your outfit!!

Hmmm, I usually get so excited with my purchase that I want to wear it often - and last season things may suffer as a result. However after a while the novelty wears out and things became equal again.

You bet. And it seems to happen a lot with shoes. I have learned that except for certain truly beloved pairs, I have a tendency to want to "retire" my shoes after a year. Especially sandals. Even if they are not worn out. Unless they still feel super current. For me, somehow the "shoe of the season" makes me feel better in all my clothes. But also, if I find something incredibly and unexpectedly comfortable, that will tend to push out other contenders.

Yes. And I can't always tell why. And can get frustrated if on ritem does almost but not quite all that I need, so I keep the old but don't wear much but can't yet see it as obsolete.
Maybe put them in the holding zone to see if they still have a role, or not?

P.S. I think the opposite happens quite a lot to me, too, or perhaps more often: I buy something with the idea of replacing an item, and I still keep wearing the old one, too.

Yes, it happens to me, too. But sometimes I just need to hang on to the old item, to see if it will come back in favor again. I think I get enamored with the new and want to wear it all the time for a certain period. One example: sandals I bought last year eclipsed a pair I had bought the previous year and worn a lot. This year, I've worn the first pair again, but not the newer ones yet. So I'm glad I didn't let the newer ones literally replace the others!

Adelfa, now you're making me afraid to keep the nude Okalas! (I haven't worn them outside yet.) Maybe they will sideline both pairs of sandals, ha ha. But I do think that the Okalas are a dressier shoe and will fill a slightly different wardrobe hole. Or so I think!

I recently bought a new pair of dress sandals because I had only one pair in my closet, and I thought that a dress sandal in a different silhouette might be fun. My old sandals, which I love, are espadrille style and have a platform wedge. The new sandals are the Soffts pictured at the bottom of my post.

Anyway, I got the Soffts in the hopes of just expanding my options for dress sandals. But I find myself reaching for them *instead of* my wedges! I used to wear my wedges all the time with dressier outfits (they were a workhorse), and now they are sitting unworn. My intent was not to replace them, but that is what is happening.

Does this happen to anyone else? Do you buy something, hoping to just expand your options, and then find out that what you bought is in effect *replacing* something else, even something that you really love?
