I always hate the between-season time when I'm using the clothes for both seasons and my closet and drawers are bursting.

I too live in a one-season-fits-all area! I can wear most of my clothes all year round. I do try to do jeans in winter, shorts in summer just to play "pretend seasons" but like karymk my clothes do year round duty.

Hmm. It's true that we basically have 3 seasons of cold and 1 of hot. And also true the sweaters are bulky whereas the summer dresses are thin.

I'm debating right now whether to pull back out this stupid bin that I didn't fill as full as I could have... I've come up with a couple more tees to put away. Argh!!!

Lol.

Its a different story in a warm clime. Here all my stuff has to do every job, all the time. Which kind of stinks because you are looking at the same wardrobe all the time and just adjusting for the weather fluxes. I did put away sandals though, because even though it's hot enough to still use them, I just have to give myself some semblance of seasons.

Who else here lives in a warmer place?

I do have twice as many winter things as I have summer but in my climate it makes perfect sense: my cold period is 2 times as long as my warm period. Is this also true to your climate? If not then maybe it is a problem...

Rachylou, I agree with Beth Ann that summer clothes definitely take less space! No bulky sweaters or long sleeves or pant legs!

Rachy, that is pretty funny, and I can commiserate. Sometimes I need to see it all spread out to know what to do with it. I imagine Angie is here and we are doing a closet makeover. It helps to have a beverage and snack, with music playing. It may look like a battlefield, but that doesn't mean it can't be civilized.

I am like Caro, never had enough summer stuff until ... well, I still don't.

yup, for some reason my winter wardrobe completely outnumbers my summer. i think its because i grow up in new england, and my winter wardrobe was good for 7 months. but as i am coming to realize, were i live not, winter is really 4 months, with summer being 4, and transition into each 4. which means that i really need to rethink how and what i buy.

I can only commiserate. My bins have been stacked in my bedroom for weeks waiting for weather to cooperate for the swap. Our temps keep going up and down so I'm digging through bins and causing similar explosions. I think because winter items are bulkier it seems like more as I unpack 8 sweaters but barely fill the same bin with 2 drawers of tshirts and shorts.

Oh I had to succumb to this some time ago when our temps dropped. However I ended up purging over 90%. I kept all of my outerwear and winter boots. Other than that - 2 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of pants made the cut.

Seasonal imbalance? Well, the winter clothes physically take more space, and my "cool/cold" seasons are longer. Even so, I think I'm probably even in number of items, just not bulk.

Sounds like you need a bombsuit, but you'd have to store it in the coat closet, and that wouldn't be pretty --

Oh, Joy, thank you for those sweet words.

I still get the explosion on the bed a couple of times a year anyway. And don't even think about what happens when I'm trying on capsules.

But Rachylou, as I observe to my daughter when she is stressing out about a project, it's kind of like housework. Or any task, really. It always seem impossible and completely insurmountable just in the moment before the breakthrough.

I commiserate about shared function bins. The OCD in me would be on edge...

It's too awful for photos!!! Lol. I don't know why I don't seem to require as much in summer. I live in relatively few things. I wonder if there's a way I could arrange things for gradual unpacking. I only have one closet tho. City living!

In the middle of it. I had in mind to get sweaters out today but it is 72 degrees and I'm uninspired. But, I've been putting summer things away. I guess finish one season before starting another makes it a little less overwhelming.

What. No photos? My sister was doing the same thing when her DH walked in and asked what blew up as it looked like there had been an explosion on the bed.
I've in much better shape since adopting Suz's 6 season system. My hot summer things were exchanged for stored items for early fall. Now, as the weather is getting a bit cooler, I've been gradually packing away more warm weather things as I bring out long sleeves and light jackets for mid autumn.
Suz is smart as well as beautiful and kind.

Well maybe I exaggerate. But it does look like bedroom exploded.

I'm in the middle of unpacking the winter clothing and packing up summer. An observation: I have way more winter to unpack than summer to put up.

It's sort of difficult making. Nothing can go back into the closet until the bins are filled!! I'm going to have to have combined-category bins. Bleah.

Anybody else find themselves with "serious seasonal imbalance"?
