Suntiger, I don’t think anyone else has noticed 4. I blame the over-lit photo. I can’t wait to wear that tumble of yellow sunshine and flowers, have a couple ideas for squeezing it in this fall, even though it’s already turned cool here.

Ophelia, i do wear dresses and skirts quite frequently (including right now) but also differentiate between which ones are for what. Yes, the cord skirt is 100% comfy cotton, as is 22. 21 is rayon. Thanks for the encouragement to go ahead and wear the skirt with the moth holes. If I wore the right color tights, they might not be noticeable. My concern is if they get ripped bigger by the weight of the rest of the skirt pulling down on them. Thanks for commenting.

Marybeth, have you done reweaving like that yourself / do you know good tutorials for it? I keep saying I want to get into being more creative and making/enhancing clothes. This would be a way to dip my toe in without getting a sewing machine. Vewy scawey!

RL, thanks

Occasions?? Waking up is an occasion. I wear skirts on the daily, at home &/or at work, unless I’m cleaning/exercising etc. Just put it on & go about your day.

Fabulous! Skirts!!! I’d wear the wool one if the holes are down in the pleats & not all that noticeable. It’s a gorgeous skirt.
Then again I’m not all that precious about clothes’ condition. I won’t wear anything stained or with very noticeable tears. But I have a printed cotton skirt on now w/ a small hole lower down. It is soft as a cloud. The print camouflages the hole so well that I often can’t find it. No way will I part w/ this skirt.
I’d just be careful not to tear it more if you do go ahead & wear it.
Is that floral corduroy skirt cotton?

Kkards, thanks for the good wishes for my son and his decisions. I didn’t even mention that the busses were local and long distance, the bikes were rental and borrowed, or the walking we did. A certain friend kept texting about relaxing and enjoying our vacation, and I didn’t know what to say, lol! Now I’m trying to figure out occasions to wear that dress and the pieces separately.

Cat2, good idea! I’ve been mulling over trying to find a pattern that echos the lace in the top. The original cami was the same ivory color as the blouse, with cups set at a diagonal so it looked very casual, but fit perfectly and offered sufficient support for my small cup size. I think I’m going to look for both, for two different looks.

Bijou, your enthusiasm for the jacket was a factor in my choice. It’s outside my norm; the enthusiasm here reinforced my gut decision to order it in the first place. But that roommate—many many unforgiveables, but that was ages ago. It’s a delight to have the dress back.

Tanya, if only the Fluevogs were keepers! Still, I had fun trying them on in Boston, and might consider purchasing the right pair at the right time.

Thanks Angie! Those two skirts and the2-piece dress will sustain me this winter :). 23 is indeed a kimono topper, cocoon style from Anthro. It is similar to this one, which I had on my wish list at the time. I appreciate the compliment about pairing it with the bootcuts, because I was hesitant about wearing so much swishiness together.

What a great trip, SF! How therapeutic to see family and friends after such a long time. Glad you and your son had a fab vacation, and are back safely, strongly, and soundly.

More love for #22!

The kaftan in #25 is KILLER cute!

#18 and #21 are such winners for your style.

Is #23 a kimono topper? Love those bootcuts on you.

I like the way the cognac complement of shoes and bag pulls your looks together :)

Thanks Katerina! I can’t wait to style the rest. Then again, I’ve been too pooped to play in my closet, so I am waiting, lol.

Lozz_oz, thank you for the word! I have vague images of cool repairs spinning around my head, so a word to latch onto helps. I found a site that will help me use that technique for my jeans, haven’t yet found a good one for how to do it on thick woven wool fabric. There is one more very little cache to explore at my parents’ house. The party dresses were all gone—she donated them to Dress for Success, sob (for me) & lol (but at least she tried to find the right spot). But yes, I love revisiting the memories and the clothes.

Thanks Suz. A cream colored cami shouldn’t be hard, but sometimes exactly that kind of item is. The one she gave me had neat details and was perfect, but when I put on weight, I thought I’d never be able to wear it or the long silk skirt again. C’est la vie. Funny how monitors twist colors. Irl the 2-piece dress is purple and Kelly green

Thanks N. I just went and closed up the raincoats post properly. I expect the yellow one will get more wears, but when I need a longer one, I’ll have one. They called that color “mist”. I think it’s extremely pale purple/lilac, and that it will go with pretty much everything in my closet. The last two calls, I’ve dreaded & hated the rain in October. This year, I’m ready.

What fun to raid your parents attic!
I particularly like #22 which will give you the versatility of separates or one outfit.
Re the holes in the skirt....it depends on their size and looks like one is on the pleat line which will be trickier. There’s always shasiko (Japanese embroidery/stitching technique) that’s popular now....

Thanks Nikki! When my friend in Tanzania gave me that dress, I started wearing it around town, but she and others let me know it is intended as a house dress. I am so happy to have it again.

Marybeth, that suitcase was so heavy! Besides the clothes, it had 8 books & 2 pr shoes in it. It’s the largest size allowed to carryon in the US. I open up the expansion zipper, pack it tight, and then sit on it all the way around while I close that zipper. When we first came here, I think Jenn counted 60-some tops that I had packed in it.

Glad you like the styling of that kimono. My first thought was “swimsuit coverup”, so I wanted to be sure I found better ways to wear it, stat.

ETA just realized I also brought a checked suitcase with clothes on the move

I’ve been squinting my head at your first photo, tipping my head to the side, and asking myself…

“How did she get all those clothes into that suitcase?!?”

I love your rainbow assortment, and especially the addition of the yellows! You really rock that yellow jacket! It looks like you had to pack for an assortment of temperatures and occasions.

I guess you call that last dress a Kaftan, but it looks fabulous on you by any name!

Insofar as repairing that skirt, you could do it yourself with a fine needle and a couple different colors of thread, but work from the back of the fabric. However, I love the appliqué idea, maybe find lace or embroidery appliqués, like something out of an Anthropologie catalog.

CarolS and Katerina, thanks for the enthusiasm ;). We got back Wed & I’m still dragging, so I appreciate your energy.

CarolS, I plan to wear the pieces of that dress separately and together, and keep planning fantasy travel capsules for destinations unknown around it. Your berry suggestions are genius!

Katherina, thanks for the love for the “finally made it home” outfit with all the layers! I was leaving for the airport in 24, then added the socks, black blouse, black hoodie and yellow jacket on the way. One thing I really like about the jacket is that I don’t think it says “tut-tut, it looks like rain” the way the other one does. It is waterproof in case of a cloudburst, but I felt fine wearing it on a sunny fall day.

Cat2, reweaving is the starting point, but if I can figure out something attractive and less expensive, this might be the skirt to experiment on.

Wool fabric can be rewoven, but at least where I live in a HCOL area, it’s rather expensive and I would not attempt a repair.

Glad to hear you are safely back home. I hope the trip was a roaring success. First, let me say I LOVE your long lost two-piece outfit!

Then, to the question of dealing with the repairs -- I'm not sure if those holes can be mended, and if not (depending on where they are on the garment) maybe make a feature of them with applique?

Happy to see the yellows mixing with your berry tones! Think yellow raspberries, guava, gooseberries....

We are back from our nearly 3 week trip on the US eastern seaboard and to family and friends in a Midwestern state. We traveled on planes (7 of them), trains (commuter, subway, & Amtrack) & automobiles (Turo, taxi, and Uber), and bikes and busses too. Whew! This post is literally everything I pulled out of my suitcase when we got home.

First up are pictures of the color scheme I chose for the trip, which was augmented by some “finds” in my closet. I can no longer claim I don’t wear orange or yellow, just look! It seems to me that these shades (or tints?) complement the berry colors already in my closet.

I’ve also got a couple of graphic T-shirts now. One is from a camp my son went to. The other is one I ordered from the Met ages ago, but when family tried to mail it to me, it was returned to sender (the kimono was in that box too); I think Brooklyn has shown the same top in one of her amazing outfits.

#2 is a plaid jacket I've mentioned before. It has matching peg-leg pants that I don’t plan to wear.

I wore the top in #3 with both the loud, flared shorts shown with it and the micro floral mini skirt. I also tried the sweatshirt from #4 with the skirt from #3—it felt entirely too 90s, and not in a good way.

#6 doesn’t have yellow, but it does have different reds than I usually wear.

The purple skirt in #10-12 has eyelets that might not show up in the pix.

I no longer have the silk cami I used to wear under the lace blouse in #14, haven’t figured out how I’m going to wear it now.

#17 is lined wool pants

#18 is corduroy skirt.

Any creative suggestions for repairing the skirt in #19-20?

#21 is the skirt in the WIW to a meeting, with stuff from other family members.

#22 is what I’m most excited about. I thought a roommate had stolen it 25+ years ago, but there it was in my parents’ attic.

#23 is after we got home. I didn’t have the jeans or ls T with me, but did pick up the topper on our trip.

My sister calls #25 a caftan. I’m not sure that’s right, but it is very comfy to float around the house in.

The cropped hoodie pullover, black Champion zip up hoodie and black silk blouse (finds) were worn as toppers indiscriminately, according to weather & mood. The red pants (finds) never made it out of the suitcase, and I haven’t had a chance to wear the ice lavender raincoat yet. I also took and sometimes wore workout clothes & shoes, but scarcely worked out at all, oops. I wore the sandals a couple times at the beginning, but soon switched to my “schoolgirl” shoes with everything.
